An energy storage device includes an integrated fuel gauge that is operatively connected to the energy storage device. The fuel gauge evaluates an operating parameter of the energy storage device and dynamically determines a state of charge. The fuel gauge communicates a communication including a requested operating parameter to the charging component with the single communication line and the signal indicates to an operating system component a change of an energy storage device state. The signal is used to trigger an alert or interrupt that causes the operating system component to display the change of the energy storage state based on the signal.

Energy storage charging from an adjustable power source

An energy storage device includes an integrated fuel gauge that is operatively connected to the energy storage device. A system comprises a battery cell, control logic, and a battery drain latch circuit. The control logic is coupled to the battery cell and determines whether a battery pack has experienced a failure condition. The battery drain latch circuit is activated by the control logic, upon detection of a failure condition, to cause the battery cell to drain energy therefrom.

In example embodiments, a battery test may include determining whether charge control is available for a battery and reading battery data from the battery based on whether charge control is available for the battery. In addition, in example embodiments, the battery test may include determining whether the battery should be replaced based on the battery data.

A computer comprises a computer chassis, a communication connector provided on a surface of the chassis to mate the computer with a docking station, and first and second battery packs. The first battery pack is adapted to mate to the surface of the chassis. The first battery pack has a shape that defines a volume in which at least a portion of the docking station can be inserted to mate to the communication connector. Further, the first battery pack has a first battery pack connector. The second battery pack has a shape that corresponds to the volume defined by the first battery pack's shape. The second battery pack has a second battery connector that mates to the first battery connector when the second battery pack is mated to the first battery pack.
