An ejection apparatus for ejecting material from a liquid at a plurality of ejection locations () disposed in a row, has a plurality of channels () through each of which liquid flows in use to or from a respective ejection location at an open end of the channel. An ejection electrode () is disposed at each ejection location by means of which an electric field is created in use to cause the ejection of material from the liquid. An electrically conductive path () exists to each ejection electrode for supplying a voltage to the ejection electrode () in use. The channels () are isolated from one another and the electrically conductive paths () are separated from the channels over substantially the whole of their length.

An electrical potential is applied to the ejection location electrode to form an electric field at the location together; liquid is supplied to the ejection location which contains the particulate material to be ejected from the ejection location. A secondary electrode (,) is disposed adjacent to the ejection location and the voltage on the ejection location electrode is controllable so as to reduce the sensitivity of the head to influence by external electric fields.

A gun for applying cable ties includes a pinch wheel for acting on the flat tail of the tie to drive the tie from the gun, the tie being guided (as it is advanced, tail-first) around a nose loop guide. The tie finishes with its head engaged with a threader which is then lifted to lift the tie head and thus cause the tail to pass through the head aperture, become interlocked therein and project from the lower side of the head. Then the threader is lowered to lower the head and engage the projecting end of the tail with a pinch wheel which serves to tension the tie. The ties are fed from a bandolier of side-by-side ties in which they are interconnected at their heads and tail tips by continuous strips running along the edges of the bandolier, successive ties being cut from the bandolier while leaving the two strips intact.

Automatic tie gun

To provide for fast response of a servo drive with a synchronous machine in which the same torque is available over the entire rotational range of the machine regardless of angular position of the rotor, phase currents to phase windings, preferably three-phase, are controlled in dependence on required torque, and steered to the respective phase windings by a rotor position transducer in such a manner that the sum of all the phase currents remains constant, and is connected to the respective phase windings, in pulses, during an electrical angular range when induced armature counter electromotive force voltages in the respective phase windings, which have an essentially trapezoidal shape, are in their flat or unvarying range within the voltage distribution during revolution of the rotor. Thus, currents are supplied to the phase windings only when the counter EMF voltages are essentially constant. A full-wave bridge-type current supply is suitable, using semiconductor switches, which are suitably controlled to steer currents to the respective phase windings, thus reducing commutating losses since only one of the semiconductor switches is switched ON or OFF, the remaining semiconductor switches functioning only as current steering elements.
