A system and process is disclosed for binding particles to a carrier material in an isolated relationship for use in composite fabrication. A slurry comprising particles dispersed in fluid is created in particle suspension tanks, deposited as a uniform layer and filtered using reduced pressure applied to a filter belt to leave behind isolated particles, the reduced pressure further acting to overcome electrostatic and other forces of attraction between the particles until they can be permanently bound to the carrier with a binder or adhesive and collected on a take-up roll.

Process and system for distributing particles for incorporation within a composite structure

The invention comprises an abradable material containing up to 30 weight percent of fumed silica having a maximum particle from about 5 nanometers to about 20 nanometers and about 1.5 to about 5 weight percent of an abradable organic microballoon filler within an abradable silicone polymer matrix having an elasticity of less than X percent.

A metal substrate is anodized in a phosphoric acid anodizing solution. The anodized metal substrate is thereafter contacted with a hexavalent chromium free, trivalent chromium containing acid solution to coat the anodized metal substrate. The coated anodized metal substrate can be adhesively bonded to another such treated metal substrate to form a composite article. The resulting article exhibits excellent bonding and corrosion properties.

The present invention relates to a polyurethane compound which has particular utility as a potting compound for fan exit guide vane assemblies of commercial gas turbine engines. The polyurethane compound comprises a formulation of polyurethane prepolymers mixed with an aromatic amine curing agent (hardener) in a volumetric mix ratio in the range of from about 0.9:1 to about 1:1. The polyurethane prepolymer consists of a blend of different polyethers based on diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI). The amine curing agent is a blend of oligomeric diamines with an aromatic diamine with a catalytic component. Both of the blends, in an uncured state, are liquid at room temperature.

Mixable room temperature castable polyurethane system

An abradable material for use at moderate temperatures which is particularly suited for use in the compressor sections of gas turbine engines. Abradable seals of the invention comprise an abradable silicone polymer matrix which contains a dispersion of hard abradable organic filler particles.
