A vehicle thermal management system includes a radiator receiving a liquid coolant in a coolant supply line and discharging the coolant into a coolant pump supply line. A coolant pump receives the coolant from the coolant pump supply line and discharges the coolant into multiple engine components. A transmission oil heat exchanger defining a first transmission oil heat exchanger receives the coolant after being discharged from the multiple engine components. An air-to-coolant sub-cooling heat exchanger defines a second transmission oil heat exchanger. The sub-cooling heat exchanger receives a portion of the coolant bypassing the multiple engine components.

Thermal transmission management strategy

A method and apparatus for active coolant volume reduction management in a pressurized reservoir coolant diverter for automobile applications. Specifically, an apparatus and method for diverting coolant flow around a pressurized coolant reservoir until the engine has reached operating temperature by employing a coolant bypass chamber and bypass shutoff valve and the like.

Method and apparatus for active coolant volume reduction for automobile applications

A condensation management device includes: a first chamber that receives liquid from an outlet of a charge air cooler (CAC) and that includes an aperture through a bottom-most wall of the first chamber; a second chamber that receives liquid from the first chamber when the aperture is open and that outputs liquid received from the first chamber to an intake system of an engine at a location between the CAC and a throttle valve; and a valve configured to open the aperture when at least one of: (i) a mass of the liquid within the first chamber is less than a predetermined mass; and (ii) a first pressure within the first chamber is greater than or equal to a second pressure within the second chamber. The valve is configured to block the aperture when (i) and (ii) are not satisfied.

Charge air cooler condensation management device

A charge air cooler (CAC) includes a first header including a first interior portion, a second header spaced from the first header. The second header includes a second interior portion. At least one conduit extends between the first header and the second header. The at least one conduit includes a first end fluidically connected to the first interior portion, a second end fluidically connected to the second interior portion, and an intermediate portion extending therebetween. A heating system is arranged in a heat exchange relationship with the at least one conduit. The heating system is selectively operable to increase a temperature of fluids passing through the at least one conduit into one of the first and second headers.

Air-to-air charge air cooler (A-CAC) for a vehicle

A cooling system for an engine may include: a coolant pump having a main inlet, a bypass inlet, a first outlet to supply coolant to an engine block, and a second outlet to supply coolant to an engine head; a main thermostat to control the flow of coolant discharged from the engine block and head; a bypass thermostat to selectively send the coolant discharged from the engine block to the bypass inlet of the coolant pump based on a temperature of the coolant discharged from the engine block; first and second coolant return lines to guide the coolant discharged from the engine head and block to the main thermostat; and a block coolant return line to directly connect the bypass thermostat to the bypass inlet of the coolant pump.

Cooling system for an engine

A coolant flow control system () includes an integrated coolant flow control and heat exchange device (). The device includes a valve body part () and a heat exchange part (). According to the system, all the coolant flow from the engine is delivered back to the engine after passing through the valve body part () and then the heat exchange part () in which it passes over the heat exchanger part (). The valve body part () by positioning of the coolant flow wall () allows multiple flow modes and coolant paths to branch out (or converge) from (or to) thereby controlling the flow in all coolant circuit branches.

Integrated coolant flow control and heat exchanger device

A coolant flow control management system includes an integrated pump coolant flow control and heat exchange device for delivering engine coolant to and from the engine. According to the system, coolant flows from the engine and is delivered back to the engine after passing through various coolant branches while flow is regulated by a control valve part of said device, then passes through a heat exchanger part before being returned to the engine by a pump part. Systems of the invention are particularly useful with all-electric and hybrid vehicles.

Integrated pump, coolant flow control and heat exchange device

An integrated heat exchange and fluid control device is provided having an inlet, a valve, a heat exchange section in fluid connection with the valve, a bypass section in fluid connection with the valve, and an outlet section in fluid communication with the bypass section and the heat exchange section. The valve is configured to distribute flow of the coolant into the heat exchange system and/or the bypass section. In the heat exchange sections, coolant is substantially cooled by a second fluid or airflow. In the bypass section, the coolant is substantially prevented from being cooled by the second fluid or airflow.
