Systems and methods are provided for detecting a movement of an object marked with a marker. The system includes a sensor configured to capture a first image of the marker and to capture a second image of the marker after the first image, each of the first and second images having pixels each having a visual intensity. A controller is configured to compare the first image and the second image by comparing the visual intensity of each of the pixels of the first image and the second image, determine an area of overlap between the first image and the second image based on the comparison, calculate a change in position of the marker in the second image relative to the marker in the first image based on the area of overlap, and detect the movement of the object based on the change in position of the marker.

Systems and methods for detecting the movement of an object

A method for determining the relative position of two points using an inertial navigation system is described. The method comprises estimating position error states and a position solution with an INS at a first position, estimating position error states and a position solution with the INS at a second position, and returning the INS to the first position. Estimates of the first and second position error states are adjusted based on correlations developed during a transition returning the INS from the second position to the first position.

A system comprises a rotatable object having a pseudo-random pattern of overlapping rounded shapes on an outer surface of the rotatable object and an image sensor configured to capture an image of a portion of the pseudo-random pattern on the outer surface. The system also comprises a memory configured to store a pattern map corresponding to the pseudo-random pattern on the outer surface of the rotatable object; and a processing unit configured to correlate the portion of the pseudo-random pattern in the captured image with a corresponding portion of the pattern map stored on the memory.

A method and system for determining the angular position of an object are disclosed. As one example, a method for determining the angular position of an object is disclosed, which includes the steps of obtaining data representing an image of a surface area of the object, the image including a plurality of dots, determining a set of coordinates for each dot of the plurality of dots, selecting a predetermined number of dots of the plurality of dots, comparing the predetermined number of dots with a plurality of dots stored in a dot map, responsive to the comparing step, if the predetermined number of dots substantially match the plurality of dots stored in the dot map, selecting the predetermined number of dots, and forming a coordinate transformation matrix representing a transformation from a coordinate frame associated with a position of the predetermined number of dots at the surface of the object to a coordinate frame associated with a position of the image of the surface area of the object.

Method and system for determining angular position of an object

A method for generating a pseudo-random pattern of dots to be patterned on a surface including the steps of receiving surface input parameters for the surface, selecting dot locations for the pseudo-random pattern of dots for at least a portion of the surface based on the surface input parameters, and outputting coordinates for dot centers based on the dot locations.
