A method for the treatment of emesis in a mammal, which method comprises administering to said mammal an emesis inhibiting amount of a compound which depletes serotonin in the brain of mammals; among which are compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein, R is selected from hydrogen, loweralkyl, trifluoromethyl, carboxyl, or loweralkoxycarbonyl; R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are hydrogen or loweralkyl; Z is trifluoromethyl or halogen; the optical isomers and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof; two of the preferred compounds of the invention are fenfluramine and norfenfluramine.

1,4-(3-)Disubstituted piperidines are disclosed which have useful antiemetic properties. The compounds have the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R is halogen, R.sup.1 is hydrogen and halogen, n is a positive integer from 2-4 and A is --C(O)-- and --CHOH--. The pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts of the basic compounds are particularly useful as antiemetics.

Method for inhibiting emesis and compositions therefor

Novel pharmaceutical methods, combinations and compositions for reducing gastric bleeding during aspirin therapy for inflammation are disclosed. Compounds used in combination with aspirin are phenoxy- and substituted-phenoxy alcohols, carbamates, aminoalcohols, carbamoylalcohols, oxazolidinones, pyrrolidines, thiosemicarbazides and aminoalkylacetamides. The compounds act systemically to ameliorate gastric bleeding otherwise caused by aspirin.
