The methods comprising: initiating a field test to obtain first radio communication profiles with throughputs supporting mission requirements; performing a first transmission cycle of the field test that involves iteratively transmitting first signals in a same first bandwidth respectively using different modulation schemes or respectively in different bandwidths using a same first modulation scheme; performing a second transmission cycle of the field test that involves iteratively transmitting second signals in a same second bandwidth respectively using the different modulation schemes or respectively in the different bandwidths using a same second modulation scheme; receiving link condition data from the other communication devices that received the first and second signals; generating the first radio communication profiles based on the first and second link condition data; and configuring a transceiver in accordance a selected one of the first radio communication profiles.

Systems and methods for providing a propagation prediction tool

A portable radio may include a radio frequency (RF) transmitter, an RF receiver, and an audio input transducer. A controller may store command messages and speech messages, implement a stand-alone, speech recognition and text-to-speech (TTS) function for the stored command messages and stored speech messages. The controller may also control at least one of an RF transmitter and RF receiver of a remote radio based upon an input command matching one of the stored command messages using the audio input transducer and the stand-alone speech recognition and TTS function, and convert a speech message matching one of the stored speech messages into a text message. The RF transmitter may send the text message to the remote receiver.

The methods comprise: storing message sets in Communication Devices ('CDs') so as to be respectively associated with speaker information; performing operations, by a first CD, to capture an audio message spoken by an individual and to convert the audio message into a message audio file; comparing the message audio file to each reference audio file in the message sets to determine whether one of the reference audio files matches the message audio file by a certain amount; converting the audio message into a text message when a determination is made that a reference audio file does match the message audio file by a certain amount; generating a secure text message by appending the speaker information that is associated with the matching reference audio file to the text message, or by appending other information to the text message; transmitting the secure text message.

System and methods for speaker identification, message compression and/or message replay in a communications environment

A method for compressing a short message includes receiving a short message that includes a plurality of text strings for compression, dividing the short message into one or more sub-blocks, where a number of text strings in each of the one or more sub-blocks is less than or equal to a predetermined number. The method also includes compressing each of the one or more sub-blocks by identifying a type of a first text string, identifying a code representing the type, determining whether the first text string exists in a library, upon determining that the first text string exists in the library, determining an index corresponding to the first text string, extracting a predetermined number of least significant digits of the index, and replacing the first text string in that sub-block with the code and the extracted predetermined number of least significant digits of the index.

Efficient short message compression

Determining a signal emitter location involves receiving a signal of interest (SOI) at detection devices, generating a time stamp corresponding to the arrival of the SOI at each detection device, and communicating digital data samples and the time stamp to a time-difference of arrival (TDOA) computer system. The TDOA computer system determines a TDOA of the SOI at the detection devices relative to an arrival time at a first one of the detection devices having an earliest time stamp. It determines a first solution to identify the emitter location in accordance with a first TDOA solution method. It evaluates the reliability of the first solution and selectively uses a second solution if the first solution is insufficiently reliable.

Systems () and methods for reducing a number of cyclostationary features in a transmitted signal. The methods comprise: obtaining by a transmitter a discrete-time IF signal comprising a sequence of samples all having a same sample duration; performing operations by a sub-sample dithering processing device of the transmitter to modify a sample timing of the discrete-time IF signal by decreasing or increasing a duration of at least one first sample of the sequence using a digital signal processing technique in a digital domain; converting the discrete-time IF signal to an RF signal; and transmitting the RF signal having a reduced number of cyclo stationary features.

A wireless communication system may include a first wireless communications device, and a second wireless communications device. The first wireless communications device may include a wireless transmitter, and a modulator coupled to the wireless transmitter for modulating input data to generate a Gaussian phase shift keyed signal having a selected data symbol mapping. The second wireless communications device may include a wireless receiver, and a demodulator coupled to the wireless receiver for demodulating the Gaussian phase shift keyed signal using memory-less symbol decisions based upon the selected data symbol mapping.

Wireless communication system using selective mapping for memory-less demodulation and related methods

A filter for a radio receiving device doubles a sample size of a digital baseband signal to form an enhanced data set and after widowing performs a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to facilitate calculation of instantaneous magnitude values and average magnitude values for each of a plurality of frequency bins. A noise floor is calculated based on the average magnitude values of a plurality of the frequency bins, and the noise floor is then used to identify frequency bins which contain an interfering signal. If it is determined that a frequency bin contains spectral energy associated with an interfering signal, then the instantaneous magnitude value of the frequency bin is selectively reduced, after which an inverse FFT operation and inverse window operation is performed.

Method of adaptive interference mitigation in wide band spectrum

A wireless communications device includes a receiver, and a decoder coupled downstream from the receiver. The decoder is configured to alternatively decode a first signal using a first trellis state transition map including first valid transitions, the first signal having a first modulation order, and second signals using second trellis state transition maps including respective second valid transitions defined from the first valid transitions. The second signals have respective modulation orders less than the first modulation order.

A communications receiver includes an antenna, and a burst signal acquisition circuit coupled to the antenna to detect a burst signal received over a wireless communications channel. The burst signal has a burst structure that includes channel-corrupted known preamble bits, channel-corrupted known probe bits and channel-corrupted unknown data bits. A channel estimator is coupled to the burst signal acquisition circuit to generate a-priori a gain vector based on uncorrupted known probe bits, and to perform a recursive least squares (RLS) operation to determine an impulse response of the wireless communications channel based on the channel-corrupted known probe bits and the gain vector. A maximum likelihood sequence estimator (MLSE) or equalizer is coupled to the channel estimator and the burst signal acquisition circuit.

A communications device may include a wireless radio frequency (RF) transceiver, and a controller coupled to the wireless RF transceiver. The controller may be configured to determine received signal characteristics and perform a spectral estimation operation associated with a frequency spectrum on the received signal characteristics, determine a channel selection method characteristic associated with a channel in the frequency spectrum including channels, generate statistical values for each channel based upon the received signal characteristics, and select a portion of the frequency spectrum for a signal to be transmitted by the wireless RF transceiver based upon the spectral estimation operation, the statistical values, and the channel selection method characteristic.

An HF communication system includes a first device, and a second device. The first device sends a message to the second device, the message including a preamble portion, a variable length data portion after the preamble portion having a given ending point selected from among potential ending points, and a check portion after the variable length data portion indicating an end of the message. The second device performs a decoding operation on the message at a potential ending point, and performs a check operation on a potential check portion of the decoded message, and when the check operation is successful, recovers the variable length data portion from the decoded message. Otherwise, the second device performs another decoding operation on the message at a next potential ending point, and performs another check operation on another potential check portion of the respective decoded message.

HF communication system with decoding operations and related methods

A mobile wireless communications device may include an antenna, and a receiver coupled to the antenna and being configured to use a modulation having memory for a received message in a block structure. The block structure may include a pair of mini-probes and a body therebetween. The receiver may be configured to demodulate the received message by determining a corresponding set of received signal characteristic values based upon the pair of mini-probes, and determining a decode starting point in the body based upon the set of received signal characteristic values. The receiver may be configured to demodulate the received message by at least, from the decode starting point, decoding the body in a first time direction, and decoding the body in a second time direction based upon a result of the decoding in the first direction.
