A hydraulic mantle system for a gyratory rock crusher enables the safe, quick and efficient replacement of a worn or deformed mantle. The system includes a main shaft, an annular nut, an annular hydraulic piston and an annular mantle. The main shaft has a flange and external threads adjacent the flange. The annular nut body has side surfaces and internal threads that are threaded onto the external threads of the main shaft. The annular hydraulic piston has side surfaces that slidingly engage the side surfaces of the annular nut body. The annular mantle has an upper neck portion and a lower edge portion. The main shaft extends through the upper neck portion. The upper neck portion of the annular mantle is compressed between the flange of the main shaft and the annular hydraulic piston.

A high-pressure sealing ring for hydraulic assemblies has a substantially&#x2014;'L'-shaped body with a leg and foot, where an external heel-portion is designed to provide a 'rolling' line of sealing contact with the seat in the cylinder or piston in which it is seated.

A high capacity radial-fit coupling bolt (or 'expanding sleeve bolt') has a pair of tapered sleeves about a shank of a bolt to which can be applied a tensioning load. An extrudable ring, or a compression ring, is interposed between a head nut or head flange at one end of the shank, and one end of an inner sleeve. A tensioning load is applied to the shank, the inner sleeve causing the outer sleeve to expand diametrically. At a preset load limit, the extrudable ring is extruded through at least one bore in a drive piston between the head nut and the extrudable ring, to allow shank to move relative to the inner sleeve until the tensioning load is fully applied. Alternatively, a drive member is provided between the head nut or head flange and the compression ring, and at a preset limit, the compression ring allows the shank to move relative to inner sleeve until the tensioning load is fully applied. The preset limit will typically correspond to the force required to fully expand the outer sleeve.

A sealing device for a hydraulic assembly wherein hydraulic fluid is contained in working chamber () formed between body () and thrust member () of the assembly. The device comprises annular seal () with opposed sealing faces which are urged into sealing engagement between body () and thrust member () which have convergent sealing faces. The device may also have a pressure relief valve () tapped into the over-stroke end of chamber () to protect seal () from over-stroke damage comprising porous body () which allows fluid to bleed from chamber () and allows seal () to pass the tapping point without obstruction.

Seals for hydraulic assemblies

Hydraulically assisted fastener () comprises a body () with a central bore () to engage a connector element () and with an annular recess () opening outwards to an end surface (). Annular thrust member () fits into and seals the recess (). Charging medium () is injected under pressure into annular chamber () defined by recess () and member () and moves body () relative to member () to tension element (). Medium () sets in chamber () to maintain the tension in element (). Element () may be a bolt or stud, body () can be a nut and member () can be a plan washer. Medium () can be a curable viscous paste, a suspended solid in a self-setting compound or a particulate solid which behaves as a fluid. Suitable materials include graphite, and lead, copper or steel balls.

Load-bearing ring () have segments () connected by studs () or frangible portions (), where opposed tapered faces () co-operate with complementary faces () on hydraulic fasteners () on a tapered face () on a washer (), to enable controlled release of the load-bearing rings () to enable de-tensioning of a bolt or stud tensioned by the hydraulic fasteners ().

An axially expanding spacer () has respective first and second spacer rings () with complementary helical ramped faces () and abutment faces (). By relative rotation of the spacer rings (), the height of the spacer (), between annular faces () can be expanded or contracted. Compression springs () between the abutment faces () urge the spacer () to its 'expanded' configuration.

Axially expandable spacers () are insertable between a nut (), on a bolt () to be tensioned, and a face (F) on a component (C) and have ramp faces () to take up the space as the bolt () is tensioned by an hydraulic tensioner (), where the puller bar () is engaged with an extension () on the nut (). A segmented collar () has radially movable segments () to allow quick engagement/release between the puller bar () and the end of the bolt () on the nut ().

Hydraulic tensioning jacks

A hydraulic tensioning system for nuts on studbolts has a puller bar and a puller buddy, which are coupled to the studbolt, and a bridge around the nut. The puller bar is internally coupled to the studbolt (and may engage the nut before the tension is applied). The nut can comprise a cone nut, which cooperates with a complementary collar or shell with a conical inner face and a spherical base washer.

A seal for hydraulic assemblies operating at high temperatures having adaptations ( ) for low pressures sealing and configured to move across the gap to be sealed at higher pressures with an angled base on a slope ( ) or a cup shape ( ) nested into a groove ( ). The seal at the point of the gap being an elastic, metallic material.

An hydraulically assisted fastener has a pressure means (13) nested in a recess (15) or groove in a nut (11) or a thrust washer with a filler neck (20, 31, 44) whereat a nipple (14) can be used as a means of pumping grease or oil to the pressure means. The pressure means can be a bladder (13) or two parts with mated channels (42, 43). Alternately the pressure means (13) can be a single part with open channel (45) nested in a channel (46) in a nut body or thrust washer.
