A gas turbine engine including a compressor rotor and a turbine rotor connected by a compressor shaft portion connected to the compressor rotor and a turbine shaft portion connected to the turbine rotor. The compressor shaft portion and the turbine shaft portion are connected axially together by a shaft coupling, between the compressor rotor and the turbine rotor, and at least a bearing rotatably coupled to the compressor shaft portion adjacent the shaft coupling. The compressor shaft and/or the turbine shaft are provided with openings permitting cooling air to enter air passages in the area of the shaft coupling and surrounding the end of the turbine shaft portion, in order to dissipate heat originating at the turbine rotor and thus reducing the thermal stresses at the bearing.

A gas turbine engine has an oil tube for delivering oil through a high temperature zone of the engine to an engine component for cooling and lubrication. An insulation tube surrounds the oil tube and extends in a substantial length of the oil tube. The opposed ends of the insulation tube are integrally and sealingly connected to respective end portions of the oil tube to form a dead air annulus between the oil tube and the insulation tube.

There is provided an axial bearing load distribution system for a gas turbine engine of the type having a low pressure rotor supported by axial bearings. The system comprises a line having an inlet end positioned in a high-pressure compressor gas path downstream of any compressor stage provided with a variable geometry. The line is adapted to sense static pressure in the high-pressure compressor gas path. The line has an outlet end producing the static pressure. An air-tight pressure actuator is operatively connected to the outlet end and to one of the axial bearings to exert a force on the axial bearing proportionally to a pressure of the outlet end.
