Techniques for enhancing performance in Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) scenarios, including techniques for time-sensitive networking (TSN) and 5G wireless network integration. An example method, performed by a wireless device, comprises receiving system information (SI) from a radio base station (RBS) of a radio access network (RAN), the SI being indicative of support for TSN through the RBS, and establishing at least one TSN stream with an external data network, through the RBS. The example method further includes receiving a first timing signal from the wireless communications network, via the RBS, receiving a second timing signal from the external TSN data network to which the wireless device is connected, comparing the first timing signal to the second timing signal to determine an offset, and transmitting the offset to the wireless communications network.

Industrial automation with 5G and beyond

Methods for aligning sending of a network system clock time to a wireless device with initiating a propagation delay compensation procedure for the wireless device. An example method, in a network node, comprises determining that a propagation delay compensation procedure for the wireless device is to be initiated or has been initiated, and sending an indication of a network system clock time to the wireless device in association with the propagation delay compensation procedure.

Timing advance for TSN

A method performed by a transmitting device, in a 3GPP wireless communicationsystem (), for handling generalized Precise Timing Protocol (gPTP) signaling, from a Time Sensitive Network (TSN) is provided. The transmitting device receives () a gPTP frame from the TSN network. The gPTP frame comprises time information, an indication of a time domain related to the time information and/or a Medium Access Control (MAC) address of a second end station connected to a receiving device. Basedon the indication of the time domain and/or the MAC address, the transmitting device determines () the receiving device which the gPTP frame relates to. The transmitting device transmits (), to the determined receiving device, the gPTP frame in a PDU session related to the determined receiving device.

Devices and methods for handling precise timing protocol frames

Embodiments include methods for a user equipment (UE) to synchronize timing with a wireless network. Such methods include receiving, from a first node serving a first cell in the wireless network, a first message that includes an absolute reference time and a corresponding reference event within downlink, DL, transmissions by the first node; and determining whether the UE received, from the first node, a timing adjustment value from which the UE can estimate a propagation delay of the DL transmissions. Such methods include, based on determining that the UE did not receive the timing adjustment value, performing one of the following: transmitting, to the first node, an indication that the UE did not receive the timing adjustment value; or declaring radio link failure with respect to the first cell and establishing a connection with a second cell capable of providing the information included in the first message.

Handling reference time delivery failure in a time-sensitive network (TSN)

According to some embodiments, a method performed by a wireless device capable of operating in a time sensitive network (TSN) comprises obtaining a time synchronization capability of the wireless device and transmitting an indication of the time synchronization capability to a network node. In particular embodiments, the time synchronization capability comprises one or more of a downlink receive tracking accuracy supported by the wireless device, a receive to transmit relative timing accuracy supported by the wireless device, an internal timing accuracy supported by the wireless device, and a propagation delay (PD) compensation method selection capability supported by the wireless device.

User equipment capabilities for time sensitive networking

Embodiments include methods for a second node configured to serve a second cell in a wireless network. Such methods include receiving, from a first node, a mobility-related message including information associated with a plurality of first reference time information messages transmitted by the first node to a user equipment (UE). Such methods include, based on the received information, determining whether the second node can support reference time information delivery to the UE in the second cell. Such methods include, based on determining that the second node can support reference time information delivery to the UE, transmitting one or more second reference time information messages to the UE, each second reference time information message including an absolute reference time and a corresponding reference event within downlink transmissions by the second node. Other embodiments include complementary methods for the first node and network nodes configured to perform such methods.

Reference time delivery during mobility operations in a time-sensitive network (TSN)

Embodiments include methods for a network node in a RAN to support timestamping of time-sensitive network (TSN) messages received by a UE. Such methods include sending one of the following information to the UE for use in timestamping of TSN messages: a second indication of one of multiple available downlink propagation delay (DL PD) compensation methods that is selected by the network node the UE; or a DL PD compensation value, determined by the network node based on one of the available DL PD compensation methods selected by the UE on a different one of the available DL PD compensation methods selected by the network node for the UE. Such methods also include sending, to the UE proximately after sending the information, an indication of a system clock time, associated with the RAN, to be compensated by the UE based on the information.

Selecting propagation delay compensation for time-sensitive network (TSN) information

A method performed by a network node () in a wireless communications network () for enabling a timing reference in a second wireless device () for use in Sidelink, SL, transmissions over a SL communication link () with a first wireless device () is provided. The network node estimates () a propagation delay of SL transmissions over the SL communication link () between the first and second wireless device (). Then, the network node () transmits, to the second wireless device (), timing reference information based on a timing reference originating from a time reference node in a wireless communications network (), and on the estimated propagation delay of SL transmissions over the SL communication link () between the first and second wireless device (). A network node () for enabling a timing reference in a second wireless device () for use in SL transmissions over a SL communication link () with a first wireless device () is also provided. Network node, a first wireless device, a second wireless device and methods therein for enabling a timing reference

Systems and methods for Quality of Service (QoS) mapping based on latency and throughput are provided. A method performed by a first node for mapping Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) streams includes: receiving traffic class specific information for one or more TSN streams; and determining a set of one or more 5G QoS flows to support the traffic class. This provides solutions where 5QI table entries configured by a 5GS can result in underproviding or overproviding the payload capacity made available to support the traffic class. If less payload space is provided, then TSN stream payload corresponding to the traffic class will be lost. If more space is provided, then radio interface resources will be used inefficiently. As such, the solutions identified herein allow for more efficient use of radio interface resources associated with a 5G QoS flow used to support a set of TSN streams corresponding to a TSN traffic class.

QoS mapping

Embodiments herein disclose e.g. a method performed by user equipment, UE, () for handling uplink, UL, communications in a wireless communication network. The UE () receives from a radio network node (), an indication with an uplink grant, wherein the indication indicates that a radio resource scheduled by the UL grant for UL transmission is for a type of data. The UE () uses the radio resource for transmission of that type of data.

Radio network node, user equipment (UE) and methods performed in a wireless communication network

A method, network node and core network node are provided. According to one aspect, a network node configured to communicate with a wireless device via an access network is provided. The network node includes processing circuitry configured to receive at least one parameter from a core network node where the at least one parameter indicates a level of synchronization accuracy that is required for a time sensitive network, TSN, clock in a TSN, and implement one of a plurality of methods in the access network for distributing access network clock information to the wireless device and for determining downlink propagation delay information based on the level of synchronization accuracy for the TSN clock where each method is associated with a different level of synchronization accuracy for the access network clock.

Supporting QoS flow specific uncertainty attribute

Systems and methods related to conveying Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) synchronization information within a cellular communication system (e.g., a Fifth Generation System (5GS)) are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method performed by a User Equipment (UE) in a cellular communications system or a TSN Translator (TT) associated with the UE comprises receiving, from a TSN end station, a Precision Time Protocol (PTP) or generalized PTP (gPTP) announce message comprising information that identifies one or more clock domains for which the TSN end station desires to receive PTP or gPTP messages. The method further comprises sending, to a core network node in the cellular communications system, either: (a) the information that identifies the one or more clock domains extracted from the PTP or gPTP announce message or (b) the PTP or gPTP announce message. Using this information, UE specific PTP or gPTP message filtering may be applied.

5G system signaling methods to convey TSN synchronization information

Systems and methods for using response times of one or more Radio Access Network (RAN) nodes for cell or beam selection or reselection are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a method performed by a User Equipment (UE) for cell or beam selection or reselection in a cellular communications system comprises receiving response times from one or more RAN nodes. The method further comprises performing a cell or beam selection or reselection procedure that takes into consideration the response times received from the one or more RAN nodes. Corresponding embodiments of a UE are also disclosed. Embodiments of a method performed by a RAN node and corresponding embodiments of a RAN node are also disclosed.

Use of system response time for cell or beam (re)selection

A technique for controlling and monitoring packet duplication of at least one packet in a radio transmission from at least one transmitting station () to a receiving station () is described. As to a method aspect of the technique, a control message () that is indicative of the packet duplication in the radio transmission is transmitted to the receiving station (). The control message () controls the receiving station () to monitor a reception of duplicates () of the at least one packet. Two or more duplicates () of the at least one packet are transmitted to the receiving station (). A control feedback () that is indicative of a result of the monitoring is received from the receiving station ().

Packet duplication technique

Systems and methods for dynamic and flexible configurations for configured grants are provided. In some embodiments, a method performed by a wireless device for configuring uplink grants includes receiving, from a network node, one or more indications to enable one or more configured grant configurations per cell and/or per BWP where at least one configured grant configuration indicating a plurality of transmission occasions within a period. The method also includes transmitting at least one transmission based on the at least one configured grant configuration. This may enable the use of different periodicity of mixed Time Sensitive Network (TSN), random Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC), and enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) traffics; reduce the misalignment delay of the arrived data; improve the spectral efficiency of the eMBB traffic while satisfying the URLLC requirement; and/or reduce the number of Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request processes needed to transmit a considerable number of Configured Grant configurations.
