Movement of vehicles through an intersection relative to one another is actively coordinated. The coordination includes sharing data among the vehicles using Vehicle-to-Everything messaging technology. The shared data is used to sequence the movement of the vehicles through the intersection.

Method, system, module and software for intelligently governing a multi-way stop intersection

A vehicle broadcasts a lane change intent message indicating parameters of a maneuver to be performed by the vehicle operating as a main traffic participant vehicle, the maneuver requiring use of a road resource. Response messages are received from recipient vehicles indicating approval or disapproval of performance of the maneuver. Responsive to one of the recipient vehicles returning a response message indicating conflict with use of the road resource required for performance of the maneuver, a conflict resolution procedure is performed between the main traffic participant vehicle and the conflicted recipient vehicle, the conflict resolution procedure using a pre-agreed identical conflict resolution algorithm executed on each of the main traffic participant vehicle and the conflicted recipient vehicle to each make a same distributed decision whether to proceed with the maneuver.

A road resource is identified, according to one or more maneuver sharing intent messages received to the vehicle via a transceiver of a vehicle, where the road resource is contested between the vehicle and one or more other vehicles and includes a portion of a roadway to be traversed by the vehicle and also the one or more other vehicles. A conflict resolution procedure is performed to determine whether the vehicle gains access to the road resource, wherein the conflict resolution procedure is independently performed by each of the vehicle and the one or more other vehicles. One of the vehicle or the one or more other vehicles is granted access to the road resource based on the conflict resolution procedure.

An on-board unit (OBU) of a vehicle receives one or more data messages indicative of intersection geometry for an upcoming intersection along a roadway being traversed by the vehicle and traffic control status of a traffic control of the intersection. An outbound direction for the vehicle through the intersection is identified. A first traffic message is sent to preempt the traffic control to allow the vehicle to perform a maneuver to traverse the intersection in the outbound direction. The maneuver is indicated as complete and a second traffic message is sent to discontinue the preempt of the traffic control.

Systems and methods for network node communication using dynamically configurable interaction modes

A vehicle includes a controller. The controller is programmed to broadcast state information for the vehicle and receive state information from other vehicles; identify a contested roadway area for the vehicle and another of the vehicles based on expected future paths of the vehicle and the other vehicle calculated per the state information; and update a ledger with an indication of which of the vehicle or the other vehicle is agreed to proceed through the contested roadway area.
