A connector is disclosed which is intended for use with an injector. The connector comprises a projection defining an inlet passage sealed, in use, within a bore provided in the injector. The inlet passage communicates with at least one outlet passage. The connector further comprises at least one tooth received within a recess provided in the injector to secure the connector to the injector. The recess is conveniently defined by a body and nut forming part of the injector.

A fuel injector comprising a nozzle body, a bore provided in the nozzle body within which a valve needle is slidable, the valve needle and the bore being shaped to include a guide region where the valve needle and the bore are of substantially identical diameter, the engagement between the valve needle and the bore in the guide region serving to guide the valve needle for sliding movement within the bore, wherein the fuel injector includes a collar extending around part of the nozzle body, the collar engaging the nozzle body to restrict dilation of the bore in at least part of the guide region.

Fuel injector

A mounting arrangement for mounting a component, for example a fuel injector, in a desired position comprises a sleeve which surrounds part of the component and includes a screw-threaded end region. At a point spaced from the first end, the sleeve defines a groove arranged to receive a resilient member which cooperates, in use, with a groove provided in the component to secure the component to the sleeve.

Fuel injection nozzle

A fuel system is disclosed which comprises a fuel pump, a spill valve and an injector provided in a single unit. The injector includes a valve member biased towards a seating by a coiled compression spring. The spring is engaged between a spring abutment of the valve member and a piston. The piston is arranged such that the face thereof facing away from the spring has fuel applied thereto when the spill valve is opened in order to assist movement of the valve member into engagement with the seating.

Fuel system

The present invention embodies a fuel injector that takes up limited space when installed on the cylinder head of an associated engine. According to the invention in a fuel injection nozzle of the kind specified the wider portion of the nozzle body is provided with a slot which extends from the step toward the nozzle holder, the portion of the nozzle holder adjecent the nozzle body being provided with a slot. A chip member located in the slot secures the collar to the nozzle holder to retain the nozzle body relative to the nozzle holder.

A fuel injection nozzle of the two stage lift type has a nozzle body containing the valve member of the nozzle and a holder which are spaced apart by a distance piece. A first spring acts on the valve member and a second spring is operative on the valve member after the latter has moved a predetermined distance away from the valve seating. The second spring is engaged by a spring abutment which in the closed position of the valve member engages the adjacent face of the distance piece and the end of the valve member lies flush with the valve body. A push piece is interposed between the valve member and the spring abutment and the extent of movement of the valve member before the second spring is brought into operation is determined by maching the push piece and/or the distance piece.

A fuel injection nozzle has a body in which is formed a bore at one end of which is a seating. Outlet orifices extend from the bore and located in the bore is a valve member shaped at one end to engage the seating and spring biased into engagement with the seating to prevent fuel flow through the orifices. The initial movement of the valve member away from the seating is limited and during this limited movement the fuel flow through the orifices is limited by an annular clearance defined by axially extending cylindrical surfaces formed by the wall of the bore and the valve member.

A fuel injector for supplying fuel to an engine has an elongated body in which is defined a bore at one end of which is formed a seating. Located with clearance within the bore is a fuel pressure actuated elongated valve member which at one end is shaped for co-operation with the seating. At its other end the valve member is guided for movement by a guide bush which is able to move radially to a limited extent in the body. Between the guide bush and the seating the valve member has an enlargement which co-operates with the wall of the bore to ensure that the valve member remains concentric with the seating as it moves away from the seating. The guide bush is conveniently formed by an outer bush and an inner bush with the inner bush able to move axially relative to the outer bush. The fuel pressure at the inlet of the injector acts on the inner bush to assist the initial movement of the valve member away from the seating.

A fuel injection nozzle for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a fuel pressure actuated valve member which moves into a chamber when it is lifted from its seating. The displacement of fuel in the chamber is served by a spring biased plunger which forms part of an electrical switch.

A fuel injection nozzle for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine comprises an inwardly opening valve member which is urged by fuel under pressure against the action of a spring to allow fuel flow through an outlet opening. The valve member is surrounded by a sleeve member which is also subjected to the fuel pressure and engages the valve member to assist the initial movement thereof. The sleeve is slidable in a bore and the valve member in the sleeve. The working clearance between the wall of the bore and the sleeve and between the sleeve and the valve member are interconnected by radial bores or by making the sleeve from porous material such as sintered material.
