A motorcycle frame including a left side frame member, a right side frame member, and a steering head member positioned along a longitudinal center plane of the frame between the left and right side frame members. The steering head member includes a steering head portion defining a steering axis. A plurality of fastener joints are established between the steering head member, the left side frame member, and the right side frame member, the plurality of fastener joints positioned rearward of the steering head portion. A fastener joint, separate from the plurality of fastener joints, is established rearward of the plurality of fastener joints between the steering head and the left side frame member. A fastener joint, separate from the plurality of fastener joints, is established rearward of the plurality of fastener joints between the steering head and the right side frame member.

Motorcycle frame

A support assembly for removably attaching an accessory to a fender of a motorcycle. The support assembly includes left and right mounting brackets configured to be coupled to the fender. Each of the mounting brackets includes a receiving slot to provide access to respective mounting locations of the left and right mounting brackets for securing the accessory. Each receiving slot has a width. Left and right inserts are insertable into the respective receiving slots when the accessory is removed. Each of the left and right inserts includes an insertion portion and a shoulder portion. Each insertion portion has a first thickness less than the receiving slot width and is configured to be received by the corresponding receiving slot and to be coupled to the corresponding mounting bracket. The shoulder portion has a second thickness greater than the first thickness.

Mounting interface for a removable motorcycle accessory

A compensator assembly for transmitting torque from a crankshaft of an engine to a clutch in a motorcycle drive train. The compensator assembly includes a cam slider, a sprocket, and a spring pack biasing the cam slider into engagement with the sprocket. The spring pack includes multiple springs having different spring rates. The cam slider includes first and second dissimilar cam members. A retainer is coupled to the crankshaft and formed with an anti-rotation feature engageable to hold the retainer, the cam slider, and the crankshaft stationary during tightening of a retaining bolt. The sprocket includes a plurality of spokes and axial openings. At least a portion of the cam slider extends through one of the plurality of axial openings.

Compensator assembly for a motorcycle primary drive

A motorcycle power transmission assembly including an engine, a transmission, a drive assembly, and a starter assembly. The engine includes a crankcase, and the transmission includes a transmission case coupled to the crankcase to define an engine-transmission assembly. The drive assembly includes a drive housing coupled to the engine-transmission assembly to define a drive chamber. The drive housing including an opening, and the drive assembly further includes a starter gear. The starter assembly is mounted to the drive housing and includes a nose portion that extends through the opening. The nose portion includes a pinion gear adapted to engage the starter gear.

Starter assembly for a motorcycle engine

The present invention provides a motorcycle including a front wheel, a rear wheel, a frame supported by the front and rear wheels, a crankcase including a first interface portion and a first passageway exposed to the first interface portion, a reservoir located remotely from the crankcase adapted to contain a lubricant, and a transmission case supported by the frame and including a second interface portion and a second passageway exposed to the second interface portion. The second passageway is in fluid communication with the reservoir. The first interface portion is coupled to the second interface portion. The first passageway is in fluid communication with the second passageway. The first and second passageways provide fluid communication between the reservoir and the crankcase through the first and second interface portions.

Crankcase of an engine

A primary housing for a motorcycle engine includes an inner housing that defines internal coupling apertures, transmission coupling apertures, and external coupling apertures. Internal fasteners extend through the internal coupling apertures and the transmission coupling apertures to couple the inner housing to the crankcase and the transmission. An outer housing defines coupling apertures that align with the external coupling apertures and fasteners extend through the coupling apertures, through the external coupling apertures, and into the engine crankcase to couple the inner and outer housings to the crankcase. A resonant damping device is rigidly or moveably coupled to an anti-node region of the outer housing to reduce noise emissions from the outer housing during engine operation.

Primary housing assembly for a motorcycle engine

The present invention provides a motorcycle including a front wheel, a rear wheel, a frame supported by the front and rear wheels, a crankcase, a transmission case coupled to the crankcase, a transmission access door coupled to a side of the transmission case, and a dipstick assembly coupled to the side of the transmission case. The dipstick assembly is positioned between the crankcase and the transmission access door.

Engine and transmission case assembly

A motorcycle includes a frame having an upper member, a pair of front members, a pair of lower members, and a pair of rear members. An engine is mounted to the frame with a pair of bolts, one of which is disposed adjacent the front members of the frame, and the other of which is disposed adjacent the lower members of the frame. The rear portion of the engine is mounted to the motorcycle transmission assembly along a vertical interface. The transmission assembly is mounted to a cross member joining the lower members of the frame, to the upper member of the frame with an upper support, and to the rear members of the frame with a swing arm bolt.

A drive assembly for a motorcycle including an engine having an output shaft and a transmission having an input shaft parallel to the output shaft and coupled to the output shaft. The engine includes a crankcase having a first interface portion with a first non-horizontal mounting surface. The transmission includes a transmission case having a second interface portion with a second non-horizontal mounting surface arranged to engage the first non-horizontal mounting surface. The second interface portion of the transmission case includes at least one fluid passage for the flow of fluid to or from the engine.

Motorcycle drive assembly with improved transmission-to-engine mounting

An internal combustion engine comprising a cylinder having an exhaust port, a piston movable within the cylinder in a compression stroke, an exhaust valve for opening and closing the exhaust port, and a cam shaft including a cam member for selectively moving the exhaust valve between open and closed positions. The cam shaft includes a radially-extending opening positioned partially through the cam shaft. The engine further includes an auxiliary cam slidably positioned within the opening and movable radially between an operative position, where the exhaust valve is held open during the compression stroke, and an inoperative position. The auxiliary cam extends only partially through the cam shaft. The engine can further include an auxiliary shaft movably (e.g., rotatably) mounted within the cam shaft and adapted to move the auxiliary cam between the operative position and the inoperative position.

Internal combustion engine with automatic compression release

A dry sump oil cooling system for an internal combustion engine includes an oil pan reservoir, an oil return port, an oil pickup port, and a baffle. The oil pan reservoir has a first end, a second end, a length therebetween, a top and a bottom. Both the oil return port and the oil pickup port are defined at the first end of the reservoir. The oil return port is located adjacent the top of the reservoir while the oil pickup port is located adjacent the bottom of the reservoir. The baffle is coupled to the reservoir between the top and the bottom or free-standing within the reservoir to divide the reservoir into a top chamber and a bottom chamber. The baffle at least partially defines an oil passageway between the top chamber and the bottom chamber at the second end such that most of the oil flows substantially across the length of the oil pan reservoir twice before being returned to the engine by the oil pickup port.
