Some embodiments of an infusion pump system can include a controller device that communicates with a pump device, the pump device having a memory device. The controller device can be configured to record controller-related data, such as user profile data on the memory device of the pump device. This user profile data that is stored in the memory of the pump device can serves as a data backup system that permits the user to program a new controller device in a situation where the original controller device is lost or damaged. In addition or in the alternative, the controller device can be configured to receive controller-related data, such as software update programs or backup controller data, from the memory device of the pump device.

Some embodiments of an infusion pump system may include an occlusion sensor system that communicates with control circuitry to detect the presence of an occlusion. In some embodiments, the occlusion sensor system includes first components that are located within a disposable and non-reusable pump device, and second components that are located within a reusable controller device, the second components being in operable communication with the first components to determine whether a fluid is flowing from the pump device.

A system and method operative in accordance with the present disclosure facilitate storage and retrieval of individual or discrete samples of biological, non-biological, and chemical material stored on dry media. Sample material may be disposed upon or within a porous or solid (i.e., non-porous) sample storage medium and subsequently archived in, and retrieved from, storage elements such as multi-well plates, for example, using robotic devices or other automated apparatus. The disclosed system and method enable ejection of sample material from a sealed storage element into a specific well of a multi-well daughter plate, or into a specific cuvette, test tube, or similar container. In some embodiments, a sample carrier comprising a storage medium may be punched or ejected through a first seal of the storage element with an apparatus or implement such as a disposable piercing tip, for instance, inserted through a second seal of the storage element.

Embodiments of the invention provide seals for retaining hearing devices in the ear canal. An embodiment provides a seal for a hearing device comprising a curved shell having a wall and an opening at a shell apex portion. The shell defines a cavity for retention of a device component. The shell wall has a shape configured to distribute compressive forces applied to the shell perimeter such that when the shell is positioned in the canal, the shell wall dynamically conforms to changes in the shape of the canal to maintain an acoustical seal between a shell exterior surface and the canal walls. The shell can include an anti-microbial coating to produce a reduction in bacteria contacting the coating. Also, the shell wall can have a water vapor transmission rate to reduce moisture accumulation in the canal during periods of extended wear to reduce the incidence of infection and otitis.

Embodiments of the invention provide systems, assemblies and methods for packaging hearing devices to protect them during shipping and storage. Many embodiments provide packaging systems that allow metal-air battery powered hearing aids to be stored for several months or longer with a live battery and then ready for use upon opening of the packaging. One embodiment provides a packaging system for a hearing aid comprising a packaging container and a hearing aid disposed in the container. The container comprises an air-impermeable material and has a removal cap that forms an air-impermeable seal with the container. The hearing aid can be positioned on a compliant support coupled to the interior surface of the cap. The support and container protect the hearing aid from shock and vibration as well as reducing the application of force to sensitive components. The container can also include one or more structures for ESD protection.

Methods for correcting systematic errors in the measured position of deposited features of a nucleic acid array on a substrate. Systematic errors are modeled by an algorithmic model based on measuring the positions (and possibly other properties) of a subset of the features, and a model is constructed for predicting deviations in feature position from an ideal grid. Deviations arising in the deposition process, the scanning process, or both may be corrected.

Apparatus and method for scanning a surface. An optical system generates a light beam to illuminate a surface. A carrier supports the surface for reciprocating motion with respect to the light beam to form one axis of a raster. A propulsion system moves the carrier at a substantially constant speed and a position sensor provides an output signal representing the surface position with respect to the light beam. A control system responsive to the output signal modulates a sample period reciprocally to carrier speed to achieve substantially constant scan length per sample and to control data acquisition timing.

An inner control loop controls the relative position of a surface to be scanned with respect to a focal plane. An outer control loop responds to the location of the surface to be scanned with respect to a focal plane of the scan lens to generate a setpoint for the inner control loop. A sample-and-hold element disposed between the inner and outer control loops is switched by an edge or defect detector. It is preferred that the outer control loop has a time constant in the range of three to ten times longer than that of the inner control loop. The sample-and-hold element provides a gradual state transition upon the occurrence of an edge or a surface defect.

A method and apparatus for producing a set of compensated commands for a spot position mechanism. A dimensioned grating is placed across the beam path and an image of the grating is generated. The image is analyzed and the pixel position of the grating edges is compiled. From this a list of grating edge distances is produced and used to generate observed edge positions. A line is fit and removed from the list to produce a list of observed errors. The observed errors are correlated to the proper position space and a set of positions errors is produced. The position errors are subtracted from the command positions to produce a set of correction positions. This set of corrected positions can be used to command the spot position mechanism. The positions might also be tabulated and referenced. Interpolation between the points can also be performed.

Method and apparatus for correcting optical spot position

A technique for analyzing analytes in a chemical array having a plurality of pixels is provided. The apparatus of the technique contains a light source for irradiating a light beam at the pixels individually, a controller for controlling the relative position of the light source to the array, and a detector for detecting fluorescence resulting from irradiation. The controller controls the light beam generated by the light source to irradiate a first number of pixels sequentially in the array and repeating one or more times the sequential irradiation before irradiating a second number of pixels, the pixels of which are different from those of the first number of pixels. The first number of pixels includes more than one pixel but less than the total number of pixels in the array.
