Vinyl ester resins of substituted epoxidized hydroxystyrylaza compounds are disclosed. These vinyl esters may be combined with various reactive monomers, prepolymers or polymers and cured to give a combination of high mechanical strength and glass transition temperature.

Styrylaza vinyl esters

Epoxy resins of substituted hydroxystyrylaza compounds are disclosed. These thermosettable epoxy resins are cured to give a combination of high mechanical strength and glass transition temperature.

Substituted styrylaza epoxy resins

A process for the preparation of alpha-alkenyl aromatic compounds, such as p-isopropenyl phenol, via the cleavage of cleavable organic compounds, e.g. dihydroxydiaryl alkanes such as bisphenol A, wherein an improved alkaline catalyst is employed. The catalyst comprises a metal oxide support component modified by an alkali metal hydroxide.

Process for preparing p-isopropenyl phenol

An improved alkaline catalyst which is especially useful in the preparation of alpha-alkenyl aromatic compounds, such as p-isopropenylphenol, via the cleavage of cleavable organic compounds, e.g., dihydroxydiaryl alkanes such as bisphenol A.

Catalyst for preparing p-isopropenyl phenol

Thermostable hydroxystyrylaza compounds are prepared by reacting methylated pyridines and/or pyrazines with one or more monohydroxy aromatic aldehydes having the ortho and para positions to the hydroxy group block with groups inert to condensation reactions. These compounds are useful to make unsaturated derivatives which can cure into high temperature resistant polymers and/or laminates without giving off condensation products.
