Methods and system for recovering metals from combustion ash containing ferrous and nonferrous metals, including the steps of providing a feedstock source of ash, comminuting the ash to substantially reduce the particle size and liberate metal particles therein, separating the metal particles from the comminuted ash by particle size to obtain ash with a reduced metal content, at least one ferrous product and at least one nonferrous product.

Method for recycling ash

A non-metallic product (NMP) substantially free of metallic aluminum and aluminum nitride which is utilized for making calcium aluminate.

Process for preparing calcium aluminate from aluminum dross

A process for recovering one of alumina hydrate, magnesium hydroxide and magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl.sub.2 O.sub.4) from aluminum dross wherein the dross is processed to a non-metallic product (NMP). The dross may contain fluxing salts which are removed in providing the NMP. The NMP may be derived from aluminum dross which does not contain fluxing salts sometimes referred to as white dross. The process comprises digesting the non-metallic product with an acid selected from the group consisting of sulfuric, hydrochloric, hydrofluoric and phosphoric acid or mixtures thereof to provide a slurry containing dissolved alumina, magnesia and a solid component, for example, containing magnesium aluminate spinel. Instead of an acid, a base such as sodium hydroxide may be used. The slurry is filtered to separate the solid component from the liquid containing dissolved constituents such as alumina and magnesia to recover the solid component.

Recovery of products from non-metallic products derived from aluminum

Dual-phase steel, consisting essentially of a ferrite matrix containing islands of martensite, is produced by batch annealing of hot or cold rolled steel having carbon below 0.2% and manganese below 2% and at least critical contents of copper (0.4%) and nickel (0.6%), with heat to the alpha plus gamma region, followed by slow cooling. This procedure is effective and controllable, and yields a dual-phase steel product that has high tensile strength with excellent elongation properties and that develops good yield strength upon moderate deformation.
