Embodiments are disclosed for warping artwork. The artwork is warped to fit an existing image of a cylinder. A method of warping artwork may include receiving a request to wrap an image onto a cylindrical surface. In response to the request, a set of adjacent warping patches are generated. The set of adjacent warping patches includes a first zero-width patch corresponding to a left edge of the image and a second zero-width patch corresponding to a right edge of the image. The image is mapped to the set of adjacent warping patches based on a viewing perspective of the cylindrical surface. User control handles are provided to adjust the warp to fit the existing image of the cylinder, including its position, curvature, and perspective.

Methods, systems, and non-transitory computer readable storage media are disclosed for modifying parametric continuity between portions of a digital image in piecewise parametric patch deformations. For example, the disclosed system determine parametric patches in a parametric quilt corresponding to a digital image in response to a request to deform the digital image. The disclosed system divides the digital image into a plurality of separate portions along edges of the parametric patches, each parametric patch comprising a separate set of control points. The disclosed system generates sets of interactive handles for each anchor control point in the parametric patch corresponding to metadata flags that determine parametric continuities between portions of the digital image. Additionally, in response to a user input, the disclosed system modifies the parametric continuity at a portion of the digital image corresponding to an anchor control point by modifying a metadata flag for the control point.

Enhanced methods and systems for the automatic generation and rendering of anamorphic (e.g., curved, distorted, deformed, and/or warped) images are described. When viewed via a reflection from a non-planar (e.g., curved) surface, the automatically generated and rendered anamorphic images are perceived as being relatively non-distorted, deformed, and/or warped. The anamorphic images may be utilized for catoptric anamorphis, e.g., projective, mirrored and/or reflective anamorphic displays of images. Various artworks may employ the automatically generated anamorphic image, and the curved reflective surface to generate a relatively undistorted reflected image of the anamorphic image.

Techniques and systems are provided for generating a vector drawing from a raster image. For example, an edge map for a raster image can be obtained, and a point of the edge map can be determined that corresponds to an input position associated with user interaction with a graphical user interface. A search process can be performed to determine an edge point of the edge map corresponding to the input position. Using the search process, the edge point is determined from a neighborhood of points associated with the point of the edge map. Using a plurality of edge points of the edge map (including the determined edge point), a vector drawing segment for a vector drawing representing the raster image can be generated.

Techniques are disclosed for deforming an image using Bezier transformation. The image is divided in a plurality of sections. Each section represents a corresponding Bezier patch. Each section comprises a multiple control points for Bezier transformation, with corner control points of the sections forming anchor points. The deformation of the image is performed by selecting multiple anchor points, and interacting with the selected anchor points. A bounding box that includes the selected anchor points is displayed. Translating, rotating, and/or scaling the selected anchor points based on user input relative to the bounding box results in corresponding Bezier transformation of portion of the image within the bounding box. Thus, instead of having to interact with one control point at a time to deform the image, the desired deformation is achieved by selecting multiple anchor points, and applying the Bezier deformation to the whole bounding box defined by the selected anchor points.

Methods, systems, and non-transitory computer readable storage media are disclosed for applying piecewise deformations to digital content using a plurality of parametric patches. For example, the disclosed system generates a plurality of parametric patches (e.g., Bezier patches) within a parametric quilt for digital content (e.g., a digital image or digital text). The disclosed system also provides interface controls for user-defined split/patch locations for the parametric quilt. In one or more embodiments, the disclosed system divides digital content into a plurality of portions. The disclosed system modifies one or more parametric patches and deforms a corresponding portion(s) of the digital content based on the modified parametric patch(es). The disclosed system then recombines the portions of the digital content to generate modified digital content that includes any deformations based on the modified parametric patch(es).

The present disclosure describes one or more embodiments of a selective raster image transformation system that quickly and efficiently generates enhanced digital images by selectively transforming edges in raster images to vector drawing segments. In particular, the selective raster image transformation system efficiently utilizes a content-aware, selective approach to identify, display, and transform selected edges of a raster image to a vector drawing segment based on sparse user interactions. In addition, the selective raster image transformation system employs a prioritized pixel line stepping algorithm to generate and provide pixel lines for selective edges of a raster image in real time, even on portable client devices.

A system and method for extending bounds of straightened and enlarged images is described. A user interface of an image editing application exposes an image to a user for editing. The user positions the image in the user interface and the image editing application generates a frame in the user interface to identify boundaries of a final image in the user interface. The image editing application then automatically determines an empty area within the frame, applies a fill operation to the empty area within the frame, and updates the image in the user interface to reflect results of the fill operation.

Methods and apparatus for simulating various physical effects on 2D objects in two-dimensional (2D) drawing environments. A set of 2D physical simulation tools may be provided for editing and enhancing 2D art based on 2D physical simulations. Each 2D physical simulation tool may be associated with a particular physical simulator that may be applied to 2D objects in an image using simple and intuitive gestures applied with the respective tool. In addition, predefined materials may be specified for a 2D object to which a 2D physical simulation tool may be applied. The 2D physical simulation tools may be used to simulate physical effects in static 2D images and to generate 2D animations of the physical effects. Computing technologies may be leveraged so that the physical simulations may be executed in real-time or near-real-time as the tools are applied, thus providing immediate feedback and realistic visual effects.

Systems and techniques to apply an image distortion to two image objects of different graphic types. In general, in one implementation, the technique includes: receiving an image distortion description to be applied to an image portion including a vector graphic and a raster graphic, the raster graphic being distortable separate from the vector graphic, applying the image distortion description to the vector graphic to produce a distorted vector graphic, and applying the image distortion description to the raster graphic to produce a distorted raster graphic, the distorted vector graphic and the distorted raster graphic together forming a distorted image portion.

A panoramic image mechanism may provide the automated generation of a panoramic image from a set of input images. The panoramic image may be generated, organized and persisted as a set or stack of component layers, which enables manual modification of the component layers to optimize the panoramic image. The panoramic image mechanism may include scripts and associated user interface mechanisms that automate the generation of a panoramic image and that may provide users access to the adjustment and edit mechanisms, and that thus enable users to retouch the automatically-generated panoramic images.

A system for controlling a string of lights, where each light or group of lights has a microcontroller for controlling their brightness and color. The light's microcontrollers are connected with serial data communication lines in a daisy chain fashion. Unique identification numbers are automatically assigned sequentially to each of the lights so brightness or color information transmitted on the serial data line is directed to a particular light. A plurality of brightness and color settings are stored on each light, and the string of lights synchronously switches between them on command from the serial line, or smoothly fades between them on command from the serial line.
