The invention features thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) polypeptides (e.g., 3TSR-Fc fusion proteins), nucleic acid molecules encoding the TSP-1 polypeptides, and compositions thereof. The invention also features methods of making and using the TSP-1 polypeptides of the invention (e.g., using 3TSR-Fc fusion proteins to treat a subject having a disorder associated with pathological angiogenesis, e.g., cancer, e.g., epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC)).

Thrombospondin-1 polypeptides and methods of using same

An oil separator for pressurized systems having flowing vapor with entrained oil particles, the separator including an electrically conducting enclosure having an inlet for the oil bearing vapor and a first outlet for the vapor and a second outlet for the separated oil, an electrically conductive screen positioned within the enclosure to receive the entire flow from said vapor inlet, said screen being electrically insulated from the inlet and enclosure, and a high voltage mono-polarity source connected between the screen and the enclosure. A needle-like electrode at the same potential as the enclosure is positioned at the vapor inlet to accentuate the electric field, thereby improving separation.

Electrohydrodynamically enhanced oil separation systems

A mechanism and method for directly observing data from which the thermal emissivity or absorptivity of a surface can be calculated. The invention teaches the use of a substantially planar heat-flux or heat-flow sensor employing a thermopile, to measure the rate of heat dissipation from a radiating surface thermally attached to one side of the heat-flux sensor where the radiating surface is exposed to a first temperature and where the second side of the heat flux sensor is in thermal contact with a heat source at a second higher temperature.

Heat-flux based emissivity/absorptivity measurement

Thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) is a potent inhibitor of tumor growth and angiogenesis. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms that are involved in the inhibition of tumor growth by the type 1 repeats (TSRs), recombinant versions of these motifs have been produced and have been assayed for their ability to inhibit the growth of experimental B16F10 and Lewis lung carcinomas. Recombinant proteins that contain all three TSRs (3TSR) or the second TSR with (TSR2+RFK) or without (TSR2) the transforming growth factor beta (TGF&#x3b2;) activating sequence (RFK) have been expressed inS2 cells. A recombinant protein containing all three type 1 repeats of TSP-2 and a recombinant protein containing the second TSR with the RFK sequence altered to QFK have also been produced. The data indicate that the TSRs inhibit tumor growth by inhibition of angiogenesis and regulation of tumor cell growth and apoptosis. The regulation of tumor cell growth and apoptosis is RFK-dependent while the inhibition of angiogenesis is not. The invention relates to polypeptides based on the amino acid sequence of human TSP-1 type 1 repeats. The polypeptides, variants, fragments and mutants thereof can be made by recombinant methods or can be made by chemical synthesis. The polypeptides can be formulated into pharmaceutical compositions and used in methods of therapy to reduce tumor growth.

Purification and use of human recombinant cartilage oligomeric matrix protein

Disclosed is a method of shaving hair by spraying a shaving preparation directly onto an area of skin to form a dispersed layer of the shaving preparation without the need for hand spreading and shaving the area with a razor. Also disclosed is a dispensing apparatus for spraying a shaving preparation directly onto an area of skin to be shaved. The shaving preparation may be an aerosol or a non-aerosol shaving preparation.
