Herbicidal N-haloacetyl-2-substituted-6-acylanilines

Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is alkyl or alkoxy; R.sup.2 is alkenyl having 2 to 10 carbon atoms, substituted alkyl of 1 to 10 carbon atoms or substituted alkenyl of 1 to 10 carbon atoms substituted with 1 or 2 hydroxy groups or 1 or 2 alkoxy groups of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or 1 or 2 alkenyloxy groups of 2 to 4 carbon atoms; acyl, and ketal group of the formula ##STR2## wherein n=2, 3 or 4, R.sup.4 is alkyl and R.sup.5 is hydrogen or alkyl, an oxime of the formula ##STR3## wherein R.sup.6 is hydrogen or alkyl; R.sup.3 is hydrogen or alkyl; X is halo have herbicidal activity.

Herbicidal N-haloacetyl-2-methyl-6-substituted methoxymethylanilines

Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is alkyl or alkoxy; R.sup.2 is substituted alkyl or substituted alkenyl containing 1 or 2 hydroxy or alkoxy substituents, acyl, and ketal group of the formula ##STR2## wherein n=2, 3 or 4, R.sup.4 is alkyl and R.sup.5 is hydrogen or alkyl, an oxime of the formula ##STR3## wherein R.sup.6 is hydrogen or alkyl; R.sup.3 is hydrogen or alkyl; X is halo and Y is oxygen or sulfur have herbicidal activity.

Herbicidal N-haloacetyl-2-alkyl-6-acylanilines

The growth of undesired vegetation is inhibited by applying to the locus where such growth is not desired an herbicidally effective amount of a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is methyl or ethyl and R.sup.2 is phenyl; or phenyl substituted with 1 to 2 halogen atoms, 1 to 2 alkyl groups of 1 to 2 carbon atoms, or 1 to 2 alkoxy groups of 1 to 2 carbon atoms.

Herbicidal method and composition

Compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein one of X or Y is chloro and the other is trifluoromethyl or wherein X is hydrogen and Y is chloro and methods of preparing said compounds. The compounds can be prepared by the reaction of the corresponding 1-acetyl substrate with chlorine or sulfuryl chloride and are useful as mite ovacides.

Novel 3,5-dimethyl-2-thienylcarboxanilides and 3,5-dimethyl-2-thienyl-(N-haloalkylthiocarboxanilides) are active pre- and post-emergent herbicides.

Novel N-haloacetyl-1,2-dihydro-4H-3,1-benzoxazines which have utility as herbicides.

Triazines of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is chlorine, methoxy or methylthio, R' is alkyl, alkenyl or alkoxyalkyl; R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are hydrogen or alkyl; R.sup.6 is alkyl, aryl or haloaryl; and Y is oxygen or sulfur, are useful as herbicides.

Novel N-(3-cyano-4-alkylthien-2-yl) ureas are selective pre- and/or post-emergent herbicides.
