A method for detecting radiation is disclosed that includes forming a detector having a photocathode () with a protective layer () of cesium, oxygen and fluorine; a microchannel plate (MCP) (); and an electron receiver (). Radiation is received at the photocathode (). The photocathode () discharges electrons () in response to the received photons. Discharged electrons () are accelerated from the photocathode () to the input face () of the microchannel plate (). The electrons () are received at the input face () of the microchannel plate (). A cascade of secondary emission electrons () is generated in the microchannel plate () in response to the received electrons (). The secondary emission electrons () are emitted from the output face () of the microchannel plate (). Secondary emission electrons () are received at the electron receiver (). An output characteristic of the secondary emission electrons () is produced.

Method and system for detecting radiation incorporating a hardened photocathode

This invention pertains to a method for removing heat from a heat source device and to a heat sink system characterized by a pressure bond having thermal resistance of less than about 5 K/kW-cm . The method is characterized by the steps of removing heat from a heat source device comprising the steps of placing a heat source device in contact with a heat source and applying a sufficient force to form a pressure bond between the heat source device and the heat sink wherein thermal resistance at the interface between the heat source device and the heat sink after the thermal bond is established is less than about 5 K/kW-cm . The heat sink system includes a heat source device and a heat sink in contact with the heat source device with thermal resistance at the interface of the heat source device and said heat sink is less than about 5 K/kW-cm .

An improved microchannel plate ( ) is disclosed. The microchannel plate has an input side ( ) and an output side ( ). A coating ( ) is applied to the input side ( ) to increase secondary electron production and to prevent ions from leaving the microchannel plate ( ) and damaging the photocathode ( ).

The present invention comprises a method for detecting photons and generating a representation of an image. A photocathode receives photons from an image. A power supply to the photocathode is gated such that the photocathode is switched between an on state and an off state. The photocathode discharges electrons in response to the received photons while the photocathode is in the on state. A microchannel plate with an unfilmed input face and an output face receives the electrons from the photocathode and produces secondary emission electrons which are emitted from the output face. A screen receives the secondary electrons and displays a representation of the image.

The photocathode (,) is operable to receive radiation on an input side (,) and to discharge electrons (,) from its output side (,) in response. The output side (,) of the photocathode (,) has a protective layer (,) comprising cesium, oxygen and fluorine. The microchannel plate (,) serves to receive electrons (,) on its input face (,) from the photocathode (,), to produce a cascade of secondary emission electrons (,) and to discharge those electrons (,) from its output face (,). The electron receiver (,) is operable to receive secondary emissions electrons (,) from the microchannel plate (,) and to produce an output characteristic of those electrons (,).

A pressure clip for contacting a heat sink device to a heat sink by means of a pressure bond having thermal resistance of less than about 5 K/kW/cm,. The pressure clip includes a mounting block, a clamp block; a spacer disposed between the mounting block and the clamp block forming a channel therebetween, support shoulders in the channel for supporting a heat sink, means for securing the clamp block and the spacer to the mounting block, pressure arm disposed above the mounting block, flexible joint for flexibly attaching the pressure arm to the mounting block, pressure screw disposed between the pressure arm and the mounting block for applying pressure to the pressure arm, and a plunger projecting into the channel between the mounting block and the clamp block for transmitting pressure from the pressure arm.

Electron field emission

Diamond crystals and films having a well-controlled amount of dopant therein are synthesized by incorporating a dopant into a deposition species formed from a gaseous source of carbon and a gaseous source of hydrogen. Flame and/or plasma deposition may be used. Various apparatuses for carrying out the growth of the doped diamond are also disclosed.
