Systems and methods are discussed herein for an optimal approach for wireless emergency alerting within cells of wireless communication networks by using a careful estimation of a 'true effective radius' of each cell/sector to eliminate broadcasts falling short of alert area boundaries (with users in such gaps in coverage not receiving an alert despite being in the designated alert area). By utilizing true provisioning information of each cell/sector that is at least partly within the alert area boundaries to understand the true effective radii of particular cell sectors can be selected for broadcast of the alert such that the entire alert area is covered for broadcasting of the alert without excessive over-broadcasting, e.g., broadcasting excessively beyond the alert area boundaries. Alerts can then be broadcast within each selected cell sector.

Intelligent provisioning of cell/sector coverage to optimize broadcast areas for wireless emergency alerts

A wireless relay wirelessly transmits Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) information to wireless user devices. In the wireless relay, network circuitry wirelessly receives a CMAS broadcast having the CMAS information from a wireless communication network. The network circuitry responsively generates a wireless relay instruction having the CMAS information. The network circuitry transfers the wireless relay instruction to user circuitry in the wireless relay. The user circuitry receives the wireless relay instruction having the CMAS information, and in response, wirelessly transmits the CMAS information to the wireless user devices.

A system, method, and computer-readable media are described for allowing a user to request a version of a website. In one embodiment, a user interface is provided that allows the user to specify the version of the website. The request is sent to the web server hosting the website. The web server retrieves the requested version of the website and transmits it to the requesting web browser.

A method, system, and computer-readable media having computer-executable instructions for blocking online content based on ratings supplied by the content provider are provided. A content server may communicate a content rating for online content in a response to a request for the online content. The content rating may be communicated as an attribute value within the response header. The content rating may be compared to the rating-permission for the computing device that requested the online content to determine whether the content should be blocked. If the computing device that sent the request is not approved to receive the online content then the online content is blocked.

Managing access to content using ratings provided by a content provider

A method, system, and medium are provided for changing the size of media content sent to a mobile device during a media session. In one embodiment, during the media session, the mobile device requests media content that has a second size. In response to the request, the content provider transmits the media content having the second size and discontinues transmission of the media content having the first size. The size of the media content transmitted to the mobile device may be changed multiple times during the presentation of the media content.

After receiving an alert for distribution in a target geographic area, a wireless carrier network may identify a first set of one or more coverage areas that are entirely encompassed within the target geographic area and a second set of one or more coverage areas that are only partially encompassed within the target geographic area. In the first coverage-area set, the wireless carrier network may then broadcast the alert in a manner that directs a recipient device to output the alert regardless of the device's location. And in the second coverage-area set, the wireless carrier network may broadcast the alert in a manner that directs a recipient device to output the alert only if the device's location is encompassed within the target geographic area.

A wireless communication device receives a menu selection from a user indicating a user preference to receive video with captions instead of audio. The wireless communication device transfers a message indicating the user preference to a wireless communication network. The wireless communication device receives a content selection for the video content from the user and transfers a content request for the video content to the wireless communication network. The wireless communication network obtains and modifies the video content to replace the audio with the captions and transfers the modified video content to the wireless communication device. The wireless communication device displays the modified video content with the captions and without the audio.

Methods and products for ensuring that incoming voicemails are stored on a voicemail server are provided. One embodiment of a method includes receiving an incoming voicemail that is to be stored in connection with a user account, determining that a threshold capacity of storage allocation associated with storing the voicemail has been crossed; identifying a mobile device associated with the user account, and moving a given amount of data from the storage location to the mobile device.

Computer readable media and methods are provided for initiating a failover state in a network element. A failover is when the element's traffic is routed to a redundant element which takes over the functions of the element, and any session state information stored in the element is also transferred to the redundant element. If a failover occurs with an upstream element, a downstream element is not aware of the failover and does not transfer its session state information to its redundant element. By maintaining a database of historic usage information, the downstream element can determine that an upstream failover has occurred when the amount of data it is processing drops below a minimum usage threshold. The minimum usage threshold is based on the historical usage data and a relationship between a given time in the past and the current time.

A method is disclosed for pre-sending content size information so that content objects that might exceed the client device's resources are not sent in subsequent content transmissions. For example, a network node may receive from a content server a content message directed to a client device, wherein the content message includes a plurality of object references, each referencing respectively an object that is not contained in the content message. The network node may determine an object size of at least one of the objects and a supported content size for the client device. Based upon the determined object size and the determined supported content size of the client device, the network node may modify the content message by removing the object reference referencing the at least one object and then send the modified content message to the client device.

A method of operating a communication system to provide content to a communication device operated by a user is described herein. The method comprises setting in the communication device a content preference, wherein the content preference is set by the user, sending the content preference from the communication device to the communication system, receiving in the communication system a content request from the communication device, receiving in the communication system the content in a first format from a content provider, modifying in the communication system the content from the first format to a second format, wherein the second format is based on the content preference set by the user, and transmitting from the communication system the content in the second format to the communication device.

Disclosed herein are methods and systems using a Media Channel Descriptor (MCD) file to manage media streams in a coverage area of a wireless access network. For example, an exemplary method involves (a) receiving a request for a media stream in the first format (that was specified by the MCD file), wherein the request is received from an access terminal that is operating in a coverage area of a wireless access network; (b) in response to the request, initiating a media stream in the first format, to the access terminal; (c) making a determination as to whether or not, with the media steam in the first format, traffic in the coverage area has reached a threshold level; and (d) in response to the determination that the traffic in the coverage area has reached the threshold level, modifying the MCD file to indicate a second format for new media streams.

Dynamic multimedia content change based on sector loading

A method, system, and computer readable media are provided for managing multiple HTTP cookies that are present in a wireless communication system. When a secure or non-secure HTTP cookie is formed, a time of creation for that HTTP cookie is also created as part of the cookie header. Therefore, when a wireless device makes a subsequent communication to a web based server, the gateway compares the creation time for multiple HTTP cookies that are present, and only forwards the most recently created HTTP cookie to the web based server. This avoids invalidating a session as a result of receiving multiple conflicting HTTP cookies from the same wireless device.

Media, methods and systems are provided for coordinating changes of network sources for media streams in a telecommunications network. The streams communicate instances of media content via packets to devices. A first network source streams packets of an instance of media content to a device. Each packet includes information regarding the temporal ordering of that packet within the instance and information regarding the sequencing of the packet within the stream. It is determined that a second network source should stream the instance of media content. A point in the temporal ordering within the instance is identified and communicated at which the second network source will provide the instance of media content. The second network source streams to the mobile device the instance of media content from the identified point, without requiring adjustment of the information regarding the sequencing of the packets within the stream.
