A method for transferring an image disposed on a medium with an image transfer device. The method comprises the steps of providing the image transfer device with a controller and a reader, reading the image on the medium with the reader, and forming with the controller a modified image from the image on the medium. The reader is operably connected to the controller for reading the image on the medium. The controller forms the modified image from the image on the medium in response to registering with the controller that the image on the medium is larger than a predetermined size. The modified image formed with the controller is smaller than the predetermined size.

Image transfer device with automatic image adjustment

An authorization service is provided for use with a multifunctional printing system. The printing machine includes a first document processing service and a second document processing service. The first document processing service includes a first set of one or more document processing operations with each of the first set of one or more document processing operations being performable relatives to the electronic document. The second document processing service includes a second set of one or more document processing operations with each of the second set of one or more document processing operations being performable relative to the electronic document. The system also includes a programmable authorization system that controls a manner in which a first set of users accesses the first set of one or more document processing operations and a second set of users access the second set of one or more document processing operations.

A method for enabling a printing machine having a customer billing interface to bill the customer for marking jobs having different sheet sizes includes programming different rates for different size sheets into the printing machine. With receipt of a machine enable signal from the customer billing interface, a sheet is fed and the printing machine determines the sheet size. After the printing machine performs a marking operation, the printing machine emits a signal for each sheet marked to the customer billing interface.

Method and apparatus for charging for printing mixed sheet sizes on an electrophotographic printing machine

Electronically-rendered auditron data, such as from a copier or printer, is formatted with an initial structured portion followed by an unstructured portion. A code within the structured portion instructs a downstream computer how to interpret the digits in the unstructured portion of the data, so that different sets of digits within the unstructured portion are converted to discrete numbers having assigned meanings. The resulting numbers and their assigned meanings can be readily ported to a commercial spreadsheet program.

Auditron data format for remote maintenance of a machine such as a copier

A printing system with a digital reproduction system communicating with a remote document processing station by way of a print server is provided. The printing system includes a first queue of first jobs to be executed with the digital reproduction system maintained at the print server and a second queue of second jobs to be executed with the digital reproduction system maintained at the digital reproduction system. The printing system further includes a queue process communicating with both the first and second queues for forming a composite queue to reflect an order in which the first and second jobs of the first queue and the second queues are to be executed with the digital reproduction system. In practice, the composite queue is formed by initiating development of the composite queue in response to a request signal with the request signal being generated on the basis of input from the remote document processing station, automatically, electronically obtaining a first set of information reflecting an order of the first jobs in the first queue and a second set of information reflecting an order of the second jobs in the second queue, and merging the first set of information with the second set of information in accordance with a selected criterion for providing the composite queue. A representation of the composite queue is then displayed at a user interface disposed at the remote document processing station.

A method for a sheet handling system where a controller communicates with a mailbox bin subsystem having a plurality of print receiving bins is provided. The plurality of bins are grouped into a first print receiving bin set, a second print receiving bin set and a third print receiving bin set with the first print receiving bin set including one or more print receiving bins, the second print receiving bin set including one or more print receiving bins and the third print receiving bin set including one or more print receiving bins. A first bin access designator is assigned to each print receiving bin of the first print receiving bin set, a second bin access designator is assigned to each print receiving bin in the second print receiving bin set and a third bin access designator is assigned to each print receiving bin in the third print receiving bin set--the first, second and third bin access designators correspond respectively with a first user class type, a second user class type and a third user class type. A request is communicated to and read by the controller. In response to such reading, the one or more produced prints are delivered to one or more print receiving bins in one or more of the first, second and third print receiving bin sets.

Sheet delivery control system

A print media sheet tray control system for use with a printing system having a controller is provided. The control system includes a print media sheet tray which is configurable, through use of the controller, in a selected one of a first operational mode and a second operational mode. The configurable print media sheet tray is characterized by a print media attribute set having a selected state which can be either a first state or a second state. If the configurable print media sheet tray is configured in the first operational mode, then the controller prohibits printing system operation if the selected state has been altered from the first state to the second state. On the other hand, if the configurable print media sheet tray is configured in the second operational mode, then operation of the printing system is permitted provided the alteration was achieved pursuant to a preselected alteration process.

In a sheet stacking system with an array of plural sheet stacking bins with sheet entrances for stacking plural flimsy print substrate sheets from a printed sheets output path into selected bins, with a sheet feeding input path system for feeding selected sheets into a selected bin to be stacked therein, with a bin fullness indicator system for indicating that the estimated height of the stack has reached a preset allowable maximum, and a stacking control system controlled by the bin fullness indicator system to control the sheet feeding input path; there is a single stack height sensing system including a stack height sensor for respective measurements of the actual stack height of the stack of sheets in respective bins for the bin fullness indicator system, a movable carriage system for moving this single stack height sensing system from adjacent to one bin to adjacent another bin for respective measurements, the stack height sensor including a movable sensing element extendable by an intermittent actuator into the bin then adjacent to the movable carriage system to detect the stack height therein. A signal generator is responsive to the sensing element position to provide control signals to the stacking control system.

Single stack height sensor for plural sheet stacking bins system

In a shared users mailboxing system adapted to receive and stack plural print jobs of plural sheets for plural different recipients in plural mailbox bins, having a preset maximum desired sheet stacking level, with a sheet distribution system controlled by a control system for automatically variably stacking print jobs into different mailbox bins electronically assignable to different recipients, a dual mode bin stacking level indicator system for indicating to the control system when the height of the stack in a bin has reached a preset level. The control system provides a selection between the exclusive assignment of only one recipient to mailbox bins and the shared assignment of plural recipients to mailbox bins. There are two different bin stacking level estimation systems, selectable by the control system, a first sheet thickness and stapling weighted point count stack height estimation system from the sheet input count, used for the exclusive assignment of only one recipient to a mailbox bin, and a second stacking level estimation system utilizing a special physical stack height measurement system where the partial removal of print jobs by shared bin users is allowed.

Sheet stacking bin fullness control system

In a mailboxing system receiving and stacking plural print jobs of plural sheets, of differing sheet thicknesses, for plural different recipients in plural print job storage mailbox bins having a preset maximum sheet stacking capacity, with a stapler system for selectively stapling together the print jobs, the mailboxing system having a sheet distribution system controlled by a control system for automatically variably directing and stacking into selected mailbox bins the respective print jobs of different recipients, with a bin stacking level estimation system for indicating to the control system that the height of the stack in the mailbox bin will reach a preset stacking level, the bin stacking level estimation system is a point count stack height estimation correction system including a counting system for accumulating a point count of the number of sheets being directed by the sheet distribution system to the selected mailbox bin, a sheet thickness factor input system for inputting sheet thicknesses point count correction factors to the point count to correct for the differing sheet thicknesses of the job sheets being so directed, and a staple buildup factor input system for inputting staple buildup point count correction factors to the point count to correct for the number of stapled sets of job sheets being so directed. The point count stack height estimation correction system automatically corrects the point count with the sheet thicknesses and the staple buildup correction factors to more accurately estimate the stack height of the total stack of sheets to be stacked in the selected mailbox bin.

A method of automatically selecting a desired copy sheet size including sensing the size of a document, and sensing a parameter in nonvolatile memory representing a set of standard copy sheet sizes and a set of non standard copy sheet sizes a selected magnification ratio, determining the preferred copy sheet size in response to the sensed document size, parameters in memory and the magnification selected, and automatically selecting the appropriate copy sheet storage receptacle including the determination of acceptable image to copy sheet ratio. The determination of acceptable image to copy sheet ratio includes the step of determining the ratio of image space to non-image space on the copy sheet and the amount of potential image loss on the copy sheet.

Automatic paper size selection

A reproduction system which includes inter alia a user interface providing a means for programming a plurality of features associated with the execution of a copying job. The system includes a means for comparing the most recently selected feature with all previously programmed features in order to identify any mutually exclusive or undesirable feature pairs. Finally, the system also contains one or possibly multiple priority establishing methods or schemes for use in automatically resolving conflicting feature selections.

Conflict resolution with warning in a reprographic system

An apparatus for maintaining the outermost surface of a stack of sheets at a selected elevation of the type having a stacking tray for holding the stack, a drive system adapted to move the tray, a position sensor for detecting the position of the outermost sheet of the stack, and a drive controller for controlling the drive system in response to signals received from the position sensor. The drive controller utilizing signals generated by a travel limit sensor, whereby the sensor indicates, with an active signal, the presence of the stacking tray at either a first or a second travel limit position. The drive controller further utilizing signals generated by a motion sensor, whereby the sensor signal is indicative of displacement of the stacking tray. The apparatus further including a sensor actuating apparatus, operatively connected to the stacking tray, for actuating the travel limit and motion sensors. The sensor actuating apparatus including means for actuating the travel limit sensor when the stacking tray is in either a first or a second travel limit position. The sensor actuating apparatus further including means for periodically actuating the motion sensor in response to movement of the stacking tray, thereby causing the motion sensor to generate a signal indicative of movement of the stacking tray.

Elevator tray position control apparatus

A printing machine in which the magnification of an image of a computer form is adjusted so that a copy thereof fits on a selected size copy sheet. The width and the number of holes of a computer form are inputted into the printing machine. In addition, the size of the selected copy sheet is inputted into the printing machine. This information is used by the printing machine to calculate the magnification of the image and to form an image of the computer form with the magnification adjusted so that the copy of the computer form fits on the selected size copy sheet.

Magnification adjustment for computer forms

An electrophotographic printing machine in which successive electrostatic latent images are recorded on a moving photoconductive belt. Each latent image is adapted to be recorded in a designated region on the photoconductive belt. The designated regions are separated from one another by an inter-image zone. A test patch is recorded in the inter-image zone. The number of designated regions on the photoconductive belt is adjusted so that the size of the inter-image zone is increased enabling a portion of the latent image to be recorded in the inter-image zone without overlapping any portion of the test patch.
