This invention describes 2,4-diamino-5-iodopyrimidines II where R, R1, R2, and R3 are independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkoxyalkoxyalkyl, and arylalkyl; or, R1 and R2, and R3 and R, each independently, when taken together with pentylene or 3-oxapentylene, form piperidine and morpholine ring systems respectively; and R4 is hydrogen or lower alkyl. These compounds are useful intermediates in the preparation of insecticides I where U is an optionally substituted alkenylene. ##STR1##

2,4-diamino-5-iodopyrimidines useful as pesticide intermediates

5-Substituted-2,4-diaminopyrimidines, and agriculturally acceptable salts thereof, when present in insecticidally or acaricidally effective amounts, and with a suitable agricultural carrier, are useful as active ingredients in novel insecticidal and acaricidal compositions. These pyrimidines may be represented by the following formula: ##STR1## wherein Ar is ##STR2## and wherein U is an alkenylene or alkynylene moiety, and R, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, V, W, X, Y, Z and n are as defined herein; also disclosed and claimed are novel intermediates thereof.

5[W(substituted aryl)alkenylene and alkynylene]-2,4-diaminopyrimidines

A compound having the formula: ##STR1## wherein W, X, Y, and Z are as defined in the specification is useful for making 2,4-diaminoquinazolines.

An insecticidal composition comprising, in admixture with an agriculturally acceptable carrier, an insecticidally effective amount of a 2,4-diaminoquinazoline compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, W, X, Y, and Z are as defined herein; methods of using the same; novel 2,4-diaminoquinazolines per se; and intermediates in the preparation thereof.
