The invention comprises, in one form thereof, an electrical connector for connecting a first conductor and a second conductor, the first conductor and the second conductor both having an insulation coating and the second conductor having a stripped end, including a housing and an electrical terminal disposed with the housing. The electrical terminal includes at least one insulation displacement contact for electrical connection with the first conductor, and including at least one releasable pressure contact for connection and disconnection with the stripped end of the second conductor.

An electrical connector assembly includes a first connector and a second connector. The first connector has a male portion with a peripheral outer wall conforming to the IEC 320 standard. The male portion includes a plurality of first electrical terminals. The second connector has a female portion with a peripheral inner wall conforming to the IEC 320 standard. The female portion includes a plurality of second electrical terminals mateable with the first electrical terminals. The male portion and/or female portion include at least one seal, with each seal being a radial seal or an axially facing seal.

A fluorescent lamp holder assembly is adapted to receive various injection molded end cap structures allowing the fluorescent lamp holder assembly to have several embodiments, including watertight embodiments. The fluorescent lamp holder assembly may be disposable or may allow replacement of the fluorescent lamp, with the replacement style being watertight. The fluorescent lamp holder assembly generally includes a fluorescent lamp surrounded by a protective sleeve. A first end cap covers a first end of the lamp and sleeve, while a second end cap structure comprising a power connector cap and tube power connector cap covers a second end of the lamp and sleeve. In one embodiment, the protective sleeve is a structure that includes inner and outer co-axial tubes with a plurality of spacers or creases therebetween and/or therein defining a plurality of chambers defining a plurality of air pockets. The air pockets provide insulation for assisting in cold starting of the fluorescent lamp. Electrical leads that extend between the end caps may be carried by one of the air pockets or be integral with one of the inner and outer tubes as strip conductors. In another form, a ballast may be integrally incorporated into an end cap of the fluorescent lamp assembly. The end cap would be releasably retained onto the fluorescent lamp assembly and be couplable to a source of electric power.

Apparatus and method for providing simple and effective attachment of a lamp holder base to a mounting plate includes providing in the mounting plate an opening having a wide opening portion and a relatively narrower opening portion, which together define at least one mounting tab of the mounting plate, the mounting plate further having an outer surface and a latch edge portion; providing on the lamp holder base an elongated body and a latch member, the elongated body including at least one mounting channel having a base surface and an inclined surface which define a first channel opening and a second channel opening, the inclined surface terminating at the first channel opening to define a pivot edge, the latch member including a latch surface region; inserting the elongated body in the wide opening portion until a cross section of the mounting plate is generally aligned with one of the first channel opening and the second channel opening; moving the mounting plate in a direction such that the at least one mounting tab engages the at least one mounting channel; aligning generally the latch member with the latch edge portion of the mounting plate; and rotating the mounting plate about the pivot edge until the latch surface region engages a portion of the outer surface of the mounting plate.

Lamp holder base and attachment method

A lamp holder carries a fluorescent lamp which includes first and second contact pins, with each contact pin having a diameter. The lamp holder includes a socket having a pair of walls defining a clearance distance therebetween which is at all times greater than the diameter of the contact pins. The walls define a slot therebetween, the slot configured for receiving the contact pins therein. At least one of the walls has a first notch for receiving the first contact pin therein. The lamp holder also includes an electrically conductive terminal associated with the slot for providing power to the second contact pin. The terminal is configured for melting when being an electrode of an electric arc discharge, thereby discontinuing the electric arc discharge. The lamp holder further includes an electrically conductive resilient device for biasing the contact pins out of the slot when the first contact pin is not received in the first notch and for biasing the first contact pin into the first notch when the first contact pin is received in the first notch. The resilient device is biased against the terminal by the second contact pin when the first contact pin is received in the first notch. The resilient device interconnects the terminal and the second contact pin when the first contact pin is received in the first notch.

The invention is directed to a lamp holder for carrying a fluorescent lamp, including two contact pins, with each contact pin having a diameter. A socket includes an inner hub, two slots and a conductor. The two slots are disposed on opposite sides of the inner hub. A spring biases the contact pins out of the slots. The conductor is associated with each slot, and is configured to engage each contact pin of the fluorescent lamp. The conductor and the inner hub define a clearance distance therebetween in a direction transverse to a longitudinal direction of each slot, with the clearance distance at all times being greater than the diameter of the contact pins. The clearance distance allows the contact pins to be moved away from the conductor by the spring, to thereby prevent electrical arcing when one of the contact pins is not fully engaged with the conductor.
