A computer for use in the transfer and monitoring of data and a method of verifying the transfer of patient physiological data is herein disclosed. The computer comprises a display for displaying data, a controller for controlling the display of the data, a graphical user interface being disposed to display data, a first input device connected to the controller for entering data that is recorded and displayed by a data recording device and a second input device connected to the controller for entering data into the controller that is indicative of the spatial arrangement of the display of the data by the data recording device, wherein the controller uses the data indicative of the spatial arrangement of the display of data by the data recording device to display the data in the graphical user interface according to the data by the data recording device.

Method and apparatus for mimicking the display layout when interfacing to multiple data monitors

A method and system for operating a non-invasive blood pressure monitor that utilizes an SpOplethysmograph signal to determine the initial inflation pressure for the blood pressure cuff of the NIBP monitor. A pulse sensor is placed on the patient's limb distal to the blood pressure cuff such that as the blood pressure cuff is inflated, the pulse signals from the pulse sensor will be reduced. When the blood pressure cuff reaches systolic pressure, the pulse signals from the pulse sensor will be initially attenuated and eventually eliminated, thus providing an indication that the cuff pressure has reached systolic pressure for the patient. The central processor of the NIBP monitor compares the pulse signals during cuff inflation to an average pulse signal and terminates the inflation of the blood pressure cuff upon sufficient attenuation. The use of the SpOplethysmograph signal to determine the initial inflation pressure reduces both the over-inflation of the blood pressure cuff and the under-inflation of the blood pressure cuff which increases the rate at which the blood pressure measurement can be made while increasing patient comfort.

An apparatus, system and method for collecting non-invasive blood pressure readings from a patient is provided. A non-invasive blood pressure cuff is arranged to be worn about a wrist of a patient and to be operatively connected to a blood pressure monitor. Communication means are operatively connected to the blood pressure cuff the monitor and arranged to automatically communicate a parameter associated with the cuff to the monitor. The monitor is arranged to automatically adjust blood pressure algorithms based upon the parameter to enhance the accuracy of blood pressure readings.

Apparatus, system and method for collecting non-invasive blood pressure readings

A method and apparatus for pneumatic control of a blood pressure determination are disclosed. The method and apparatus comprise an inflatable cuff for obtaining a blood pressure measurement from a patient, a hose configured to operate with a pressurizing apparatus for providing pressurization of the inflatable cuff, the hose including a patient end and a non-patient end. In addition the method and apparatus comprise a pneumatic switch coupled to the inflatable cuff near the patient end of the hose.

Pneumatic control of blood pressure determinations

A patient monitor has a plurality of voice alarm messages stored in a memory. When the monitor detects an occurrence of an alarm condition, such as an usual physiological characteristic of the patient, a voice alarm message associated with that condition is played back through a loudspeaker. To enable the patient monitor to be used throughout the world, the end user is able to replace each of the prerecorded voice alarm messages. Thus the end user is able to store voice messages in the native language and dialect spoken where the monitor is used.

Blood pressure of an human being is read by a process that places a cuff around a portion of the human being's body. The cuff is inflated to a predefined pressure which occludes the flood of blood and then the cuff is deflated in a controlled manner. At a plurality of deflation pressure levels, pressure pulses that occur in the cuff are integrated to produce a plurality of integral values. A diastolic pressure of the human being is derived in response to the deflation pressure level at which occurred the integral value that is greatest in magnitude.

Automatic oscillometric apparatus and method for measuring blood pressure

A sling for use with a noninvasive blood pressure monitor which is designed to minimize contact by external objects with an inflatable cuff which surrounds a patient's limb during blood pressure measurements. The sling comprises an arm rest having supporting straps for supporting the patient's limb at at least two locations so as to define an unsupported space therebetween adapted to accept the inflatable cuff such that the inflatable cuff does not touch the straps or external objects. Preferably, the sling comprises two braces having bottom surfaces to serve as a base for the sling, linking members having ends which are attached to the braces so that the linking members extend between the braces, and two supporting straps, attached to and extending between two linking members, for supporting the patient's arm. The straps are positioned adjacent the braces so that a gap is provided between the straps for placement of the inflatable cuff such that the inflatable cuff does not touch the straps or external objects. The linking members are adjustable to accommodate patients' arms of various sizes. The components of the sling may be made completely out of foam material, so long as an opening for the blood pressure cuff is provided.

Noninvasive blood pressure sling

A data playback device which records, stores, and plays back actual patient oscillometric blood pressure data to create a more realistic NIBP simulation for testing of an NIBP monitor. The system is made up of two units, a computer and a converter. The converter has a Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) connected to the computer and 16-bit D/A and A/D converters connected to the input and output, respectively, of a blood pressure monitor. The A/D converter senses cuff pressure and sends the signal to the computer. The computer then calculates the pressure pulse data from the stored patient data and sends it to the monitor via the D/A converter, where the pressure pulse data is converted to a voltage and electronically summed with the pressure transducer signal output by the blood pressure monitor under test. Typically, the playback system reads the current cuff pressure in the blood pressure monitor and 'plays back' the oscillation complex from the data file whose average pressure is closest to the current cuff pressure. The oscillation complex is scaled to the proper amplitude using linear interpolation before it is summed into the cuff pressure channel. This process is repeated for each pressure level during the oscillometric blood pressure determination. During testing, the blood pressure monitor sees an oscillation envelope and oscillation complex shapes similar to the original data from a real patient.

NIBP playback system

An automated sphygmomanometer which stores the attributes for all oscillation complexes at each pressure step and compares the stored waveform data to a template containing the attributes of a 'clean' oscillation complex from a present or previous NIBP determination or from a standard template determined from a broad population of patients. Preferably, an oscillation complex near MAP is selected as the template. After the oscillation complexes have been gathered, correlation values for each new oscillation complex in the stored waveform data and the template are calculated using correlation calculations from detection theory. All oscillation complexes which highly correlate with the template (their correlation values are above a given threshold) are maintained as 'good' oscillation data, while the remainder of the oscillation complexes are ignored as corrupted by artifact data. Artifact-reduced data may then be used in the blood pressure calculation. Similar correlation techniques are also used at each pressure step in a real-time manner to detect the presence of an oscillation complex during a step inflate or deflate blood pressure measurement.

An automated sphygmomanometer in which the timeout duration of respective deflation periods during which oscillatory complexes may be detected is alternated so that the monitor cannot synchronize with the heart rate for more than one deflation step. The timeout durations at each deflation step are alternated to have long-short-long-short durations so that the overall duration of the measurement cycle is preferably about the same as in conventional monitors in which the timeout periods all have the same duration. Once the oscillatory complexes are detected, the timeout is typically not needed and the processing proceeds to the next deflation step in a conventional manner.
