Apparatus, systems, and methods for reducing or eliminating crosstalk in ion mobility spectrometers are provided. In some aspects, the apparatus, systems, and methods can reduce or eliminate crosstalk without significantly increasing the overall capacitive load of the ion mobility system. In accordance with various aspects of the applicant's teachings, cross talk compensation circuits are disclosed herein that address resulting issues in RF pickup and/or crosstalk in ion mobility spectrometers used with high-sensitivity downstream mass spectrometers such as mass spectrometers having high velocity gas interfaces that can be coupled to the ion mobility spectrometer.

Crosstalk compensation for ion mobility spectrometry power supply

An apparatus for measuring RF voltage from a quadrupole in a mass spectrometer are provided. The apparatus comprises at least one rectifying diode circuit for rectifying the RF voltage of the quadrupole to produce a rectified RF voltage. The apparatus further comprises at least one operational amplifier configured as a current to voltage converter, a negative input of the at least one operational amplifier connected to the output of at least one diode in the at least one rectifying diode circuit, a positive input of the at least one operational amplifier at ground, and an output of the at least one operational amplifier in a feedback loop with the negative input, to reduce reverse leakage current from the at least one diode.

Apparatus for measuring RF voltage from a quadrupole in a mass spectrometer

Systems, devices, circuits, and methods are provided for an improved mass spectrometry detection system that comprises at least one component that operates at a high voltage. A number of high voltage filters or circuits are provided for reducing noise from high voltage power supplies that produce positive and negative voltages. In some embodiments, the filters can comprise one or more diodes. In some embodiments, the filters can comprise one or more transistors. In some embodiments, the filters can comprise one or more transistor pairs. A variety of embodiments of systems, devices, circuits, and methods in conjunction with the disclosures are provided.

High voltage power supply filter for a mass spectrometer

An apparatus and method for coupling RF and AC signals to provide power to a multipole in a mass spectrometer is provided. A first circuit comprises: an RF power source for providing difference mode power to the multipole via the RF signal; at least one inductor for forming at least one resonant LC circuit with the multipole for providing voltage gain for the RF signal; and a transformer, comprising a secondary tap, the transformer connected in parallel to the RF power source and further connected to the at least one inductor such that the signals injected into the secondary tap are communicated to the at least one resonant LC circuit. A second circuit comprises: an AC power source for providing common mode power to the multipole via the AC signal, an output from the second circuit connected to the secondary tap such that the common mode power is injected into the first circuit and the multipole can be operated in common mode and difference mode simultaneously; and at least one inductor for forming a resonant LC circuit with the multipole via the transformer, to provide voltage gain for the AC signal.

Apparatus and method for coupling RF and AC signals to provide power to a multipole in a mass spectrometer

An apparatus for providing power to a multipole in a mass spectrometer is provided. The apparatus comprises a first resonant LC circuit; at least one inductor for forming a second resonant LC circuit with the multipole, the second resonant LC circuit connected in cascade with the first resonant LC circuit, when the at least one inductor is connected to the multipole; an RF power source for providing an RF signal; and a step-up transformer connected in parallel to the RF power source on a primary side and the first resonant LC circuit on a secondary side, the step-up transformer providing voltage gain for the RF signal thereby reducing the loaded Q of the resonant LC circuits.

Apparatus for providing power to a multipole in a mass spectrometer

A sample analysis system incorporates an ion removal mechanism for removing residual ions from the sample analysis system. The ion removal mechanism can be included in an ion optics assembly, which connects an ion mobility filter to a mass analyzer. A sample to be analyzed by the sample analysis system may be entered into an ion mobility filter. The ion mobility filter filters the ions of the sample and passes the filtered group of ions to the ion optics assembly. The ion optics assembly transports the filtered group of ions to a mass analyzer where some or all of the ions in the group are detected. The ion removal mechanism then removes all or substantially all residual ions from the ion optics that were left over from the first filtered group before a second filtered group is passed through.

In various embodiments the present teachings provide high-voltage, asymmetric-waveform power supplies useful for, e.g., differential mobility spectrometry. In various embodiments, provided are high-voltage, asymmetric-waveform power supplies for high-field asymmetric waveform ion mass spectrometers having field values greater than about 5,000 volts cmand varying in time at rates greater than about 600 kilohertz (KHz).

Linear FAIMS power supply

A mass spectroscopy apparatus having two quadrupole mass analyzer stages is disclosed. Both stages are configured to transmit ions of the same mass to charge ratio and they are operated in series to provide a tandem mass analyzer having greater resolution than either stage has separately. The poles of the two quadrupoles are positioned axially and close together to minimize ion loss between the two stages. The RF component of the potential across the two stages are kept in phase such that some poles of the first stage are always 180&deg; out of phase with some poles of the other stage. Capacitors are provided to couple the out of phase poles of the two stages to one another, thereby compensating for a stray capacitance which arises between the in phase poles of the two stages.
