Substantially all the nitrogen is removed from natural gas during the production of LNG, without producing mixed nitrogen/methane streams needing recycle and further processing, or requiring compression for burning as fuel, by operating both the high pressure and the low pressure multistage distillation towers of a two column cryogenic nitrogen rejection unit to produce acceptable liquefied natural gas as tower bottom products, while the low pressure tower is further operated to produce as an overhead a gas steam containing no more than about 1% methane for safe venting to the atmosphere.

Separating nitrogen from methane in the production of LNG

A cryogenic process for the separation of one light gas component from a heavier gas component in a gas feed stream, by injecting a liquid hydrocarbon additive stream into the top or upper portion of a dephlegmator-heat exchanger, to increase the rectification temperature, or to maintain the temperature and reduce the additive flow rate relative to the respective values required with a conventional, single stage condenser.

The olefin-hydrogen effluent vapor stream from a dehydrogenation process is separated by a cryogenic separation method utilizing a cryogenic separation system. The method does not require external refrigeration and reheats and portions an expander feed stream to extract energy and controls the warm end and cold end temperature differences in the primary heat exchanger to provide energy savings and economical operation and material use.

Cryogenic separation process for the recovery of components from the products of a dehydrogenation reactor

A system and process for the production of synthesis gas with a specific H2CO ratio, for example, 0.7 to 1.2 and a low residual methane content, for example, less than 5 percent (5%). Excess hydrogen from the syngas feed stream is removed by a membrane as a permeate and the retentate gas cryogenically separated.

Cryogenic and membrane synthesis gas production

A substantially closed vapor control system is provided for recovering volatilized vapors released during the filling of storage and other types of tanks with hydrocarbons or other volatile chemicals. An inert gas is supplied to thetank and mixes with the volatilized vapors during loading of the hydrocarbon or chemical to produce an inflammable vapor mixture. The vapor mixture is then subjected to a two-stage compression and separation process to condense and separate the volatilized vapors from the inert gas. The condensed volatilized vapor is then returned to the storage tank while the inert gas is liquefied and stored for subsequent delivery to the storage tank when the hydrocarbon or chemical is unloaded from the tank.

Method of controlling vapor loss from containers of volatile chemicals

A recycle process for the separation of landfill gas containing a wide variety of impurities into a carbon dioxide product stream and a fuel-grade-pressurized methane product stream, the process providing for the removal of both the impurities and the carbon dioxide in a cryogenic column as a bottom stream, the separation of the methane from the overhead product stream by a membrane process, and, optionally, the removal of impurities from the carbon dioxide bottom stream in a separate purification column, to recover a high-quality, liquid, carbon dioxide stream.

Process for the separation of landfill gas

An improvement in a Ryan/Holmes separation of methane from carbon dioxide is disclosed wherein the upper portion of a distillation column is operated, i.e., -70.degree. F., while still effectuating a separation of methane from carbon dioxide. This is achieved by increasing the amount of nonpolar liquid agent added to the condenser of the column to an amount sufficient to maintain the condenser and all portions of the column above such temperatures.

Distillative separation of methane and carbon dioxide

A method for the distillative separation of a feed stream containing light hydrocarbons and acid gas components in a distillative column into an enriched overhead product, such as a carbondioxide fraction, and an enriched bottom product of C.sub.2 + and hydrogen sulfide, the method which comprises: introducing a liquid alkane additive into the column, to provide a relatively uniform, constant temperature zone in the column above the point of feed inlet of the feed stream; extracting heat from the upper portion of the low-temperature zone; and introducing heat into the lower portion of the temperature zone approximately at or above the feed inlet of the feed stream, to reduce the energy requirement of the distillation.

Energy-saving distillative separation using low-temperature heat input

An improved method for the distillation of a feed stream containing hydrocarbon components, which method is directed toward the production of a bottom product stream and an overhead product stream, both with desired specifications, which method comprises recycling a minor portion of the bottom product stream typically, but not necessarily, derived from said separation directly to a reflux condenser for the overhead product stream of said method, in order to effect a savings in energy in said distillative method, such as by adjusting the column operating conditions, such as the column operating pressure or the top or bottom operating temperatures of said column.

Distillative separation employing bottom additives

An improvement in a Ryan/Holmes separation of methane from carbon dioxide is disclosed wherein the upper portion of a distillation column is operated at temperatures above the triple point of carbon dioxide, i.e., -70.degree. F., while still effectuating a separation of methane from carbon dioxide. This is achieved by increasing the amount of non-polar liquid agent added to the condenser of the column to an amount sufficient to maintain the condenser and all portions of the column at such temperatures.
