Golf ball with through-hole(s) incorporating hollow air pocket(s) to produce thinner outer wall facilitating more speed and responsiveness off of the golf club's face at impact is disclosed. A thin outer wall is desirable in golf ball design. A wall that is too thick inhibits rebound and promotes fracturing. A thinner wall with structural supports allows for the outer wall to be thinned while producing an internal structure that promotes rebound and not structural failure. This volume of material formed into the volume to help resist deformation of the outer shell. The internal structure between the outer shell and inner axial shaft can be a honeycomb-like pattern or concentric rings to create more structure, less air volume and faster response. These smaller compartments of air will create more rebound because of the additional force of the more responsive inner structure providing a spring effect as well.

Golf ball

A foamed polymer having a top portion with ruptured cells and a bottom portion of non-ruptured cells is provided. The ruptured cells are formed using mechanical or chemical abrasion to form a plurality of fibrous members that simulate a grass-like surface. The abrasion may be accomplished using sanding or solvents that rupture the cells of the top portion.

Non-standard sport projectiles, in accordance with this invention, include at least one linear through hole. As this non-standard sport projectile passes through the air, after being hit by, for example, a golf club, the non-standard sport projectile spins. When the above-mentioned through hole is generally aligned with the projectile's direction of flight, air passes through the through hole, and the aerodynamic characteristics of the non-standard sport projectile are enhanced. When the through hole is not aligned with the projectiles direction of flight the aerodynamic characteristics are reduced. As a result, the non-standard sport projectile experiences rapidly repeating intervals of relatively high aerodynamic flight and relatively low aerodynamic flight as the non-standard sport projectile spins around the center cross section of the through hole.

A seal device is adapted to be interposed and compressed between joined pieces in a flow line that is operative to convey a flowing fluid. The seal device comprises an inner seal member and an outer seal retainer member. The inner seal member has a central opening extending therethrough to accommodate the flow of the fluid and has a channel structure that provides a channel opening which faces the central opening and extends therearound. A pair of lips are disposed opposite each other and extend around an inner peripheral portion of the inner seal member. The lips operate to apply a sealing force against the joined pieces when interposed and compressed therebetween. The outer seal retainer member surrounds the inner seal member. The inner seal member and the outer seal retainer member are sized and adapted to seal a space between the joined pieces in the flow line when interposed and compressed between the joined pieces to allow fluid to flow therethrough. The inner seal member is operative to prevent contact of the fluid with the outer seal retainer member when interposed and compressed between the joined pieces. Where the fluid is corrosive, the inner seal member includes a portion formed of anti-corrosive material. Auxiliary resilient spacers and springs may be employed with the inner seal member.

Seal device for flow line applications

A protective seal and method for protecting flow line joints from leakage of fluid conveyed thereby when exposed to elevated temperatures, such as fire, employs the use of intumescent material and a channeling structure for channeling the intumescent material into a separation gap caused by thermal separation of adjacent flow line pieces, e.g., pipe sections. The channeling structure may be a channel formed in the connecting flanges, or in a gasket interposed between the pieces. Alternatively, the channeling structure may be an annulus for directing the intumescent material radially inwardly into the separation gap or a channeling strip in a spiral wound gasket. Where a channel is provided in the flange or gasket, a seal element may be used, and the intumescent material material provides a driving force to advance the seal into the separation gap. The intumescent material material may be bounded by a diaphragm or contained within a bladder. The method is directed to channeling intumescent material into the separation gap by various channeling structures.

Protective seal for use in fluid flow lines and method therefor

An isolation gasket is provided for interposition between joined pieces of a flow line. The gasket has a gasket body which electrically isolates the pieces from one another. In one embodiment the gasket has a pair of composite, insulative linings laminated on opposite sides of a metal core. An endless channel on each side of the gasket body surrounds a central flow opening and is formed of a depth sufficient to extend through the insulative lining and into the metal core. The outer sidewall of each endless channel is at an acute angle to its bottom wall, and the inner sidewall is at an angle of at least ninety degrees with respect to the bottom wall. The channels may be opposed to or offset from one another. Different channel cross-sections are described. An alternative gasket body may eliminate the metal core and be either a laminated composite body or of integral construction. Here, the endless channels are offset, and depths of the endless channels together exceed the gasket thickness so that the channels overlap to prevent radial fluid migration. In each case, seal elements are disposed in each channel and are configured so that the acutely angled channel outer sidewalls reduce the danger of gasket rollout.
