A CATV system having an aggregator node and at least one compact node. The aggregator node receives downstream signals from a head end and sends upstream signals to the head end. The at least one compact node receives downstream signals from the aggregator node and send upstream signals to the aggregator node. The at least one compact node sends the downstream signal received from the aggregator node to a subscriber positioned in the upstream direction relative to the compact node.

Fiber-enabled backfeed network architecture

A network node is provided for use with a broadband data provider facility, and first and second subscriber groups, the broadband data provider facility being operable to provide first and second service group provider data. The network node includes a network access device and a downstream configuration component. The network access device converts the first and second service group provider data into first and second service group network access data, respectively. Methods, systems, and computer readable media may be operable to facilitate the creation of personalized partial recordings of multimedia content. A partial recording of a piece of content may be created based upon a user request being received at a multimedia device and a determination of partial recording start and termination points. In embodiments, the start point of a partial recording may be based upon a predetermined or user-input setback duration, or a preceding scene boundary may be identified as the partial recording start point. A partial recording may include a content preview comprising one or more portions of one or more content segments, and each of the one or more content segments may include a start point that is identified within the associated piece of content based upon a predetermined interval or an identification of scene boundaries within the content.

A radio frequency over glass (RFoG) system may be modified to extend a downstream band. A transimpedance amplifier with a downstream path may be used in the RFoG system in combination with an upstream path having greater than 200 MHz radio frequency (RF) bandwidth to provide the greater than 1.2 GHz downstream bandwidth overlapping with the greater than 200 MHz upstream bandwidth. The RFoG system may include a gateway facilitating an optical network unit and modem connection, the gateway having an express upstream port and an express downstream radio frequency (RF) port. The gateway may be configured for processing legacy RFoG signals in an upstream and a downstream direction and for at least one of generating or processing, via the express ports on the modem, RFoG signals in an extended spectrum beyond 42 MHz in the upstream direction and beyond 1000 MHz in the downstream direction.

Particular embodiments provide an N+0 sharing scheme for networks. The N+0 sharing scheme includes no dedicated spare among a group of active elements. Each active element may provide service to a medium, which may be associated with a medium. When a failure to one of the active elements occurs, at least one of the working active elements takes the workload of the failed active element. The cost of N+0 sharing is a reduced per medium (e.g., service group) capacity during a failure. That is, some service groups may receive less bandwidth from the active element that is used in the sharing scheme to compensate for the failure. However, this may be preferable to service operators compared to the additional cost of including a spare for the group of active elements, or the complete loss of service that occurs when a failure occurs without a failure recovery scheme.

N+0 redundancy in a network access system

An OBI manager provides the reduction/elimination of optical beat interference (OBI). As will be described in more detail below, the OBI manager identifies OBI partners through an identification process performed via an RFoG network. An OBI partner may be two optical networking units (ONUs) that may interfere with one another when transmitting in the same time slot. Once the OBI partners are identified, the OBI manager may perform a mitigation process to mitigate possible OBI. For example, the OBI manager may organize the OBI partners to reduce OBI, such as by guaranteeing no OBI partners transmit at the same time.
