An abrasive article in form of an abrasive wheel comprising a core and a bonded abrasive body disposed within an interior recess of a peripheral surface of a core. The core comprises a polymer material and has an HDT at 0.45 MPa of at least about 130&#xb0; C., and a low shrinkage ratio.

A grinding wheel is suited for shaping glass, notably glass that is less than or equal to 4 mm thick. This grinding wheel has at least one abrasive portion formed of at least one metal binder and of diamonds distributed in the binder. The binder has a Rockwell B hardness of between 95 and 105 and is tungsten-based. The diamonds have a size of between 75 and 95 &#x3bc;m and a concentration of between 2.2 ct/cmand 2.64 ct/cm. Glass, in particular for shaping motor-vehicle glazing units, can be shaped with this grinding wheel, making it possible to achieve travel speeds greater than or equal to 30 m/min.

A grinding tool includes a shank having an axis, and at least two abrasive portions mounted directly to and in contact with the shank without a hub therebetween. Each of the abrasive portions has a substantially identical profile formed therein.

Abrasive tools and methods of forming the same

A grinding tool and method is provided for shaping an edge of sheet glass. The grinding tool includes an arbor and a wheel being of a unitary construction and including an axis of rotation. The grinding tool further includes a recess extending along a periphery of the wheel, with a bonded abrasive being disposed therein. The bonded abrasive is sized and shaped for being profiled, to shape an edge of a glass sheet upon rotation of the tool about the axis. The bonded abrasive may further be sized and shaped for being re-profiled after use. The grinding tool of this invention may provide for both improved quality and reduced cost sheet glass.
