The disclosure provides compositions containing preparations from plants of the family Marcgraviaceae and from plants of the family Platanaceae. The disclosure also provides methods and uses of plant preparations for treating anxiety, stress and glucocorticoid related disorders.

Derivatives of dillapiol, sesamol and related monolignans having the following general formula:  These compounds have synergistic properties, inhibit cytochrome P450 enzymes such as human CYP3A4, and can be used as pesticide synergists or pharmaco-enhancers. Accordingly, methods for increasing the efficacy and/or bioavailability of a pharmaceutically active agent and for increasing the potency of a pesticide are described, as are synergistic pesticidal and pharmaceutical compositions.

Derivatives of dillapiol and related monolignans and use thereof

Pharmaceutical compositions for preventing or treating anxiety, comprising betulinic acid or derivatives thereof are provided. Methods for preventing or treating anxiety with betulinic acid or derivatives thereof are also provided. The invention further provides betulinic-acid containing preparations of plants of the family Marcgraviaceae having anxiolytic activity and methods for making such extracts and using them to prevent or treat anxiety in a subject.

Anxiolytic marcgraviaceae compositions containing betulinic acid, betulinic acid derivatives, and methods

The invention provides compositions and methods useful in repelling target pests, such as insects from target areas. The compositions comprise mixtures or solutions of at least one repellent composition. The compositions of the invention preferably include an effective amount of evening primrose oil ('EPO') to repel a target pest from a target area, such as animals, humans, plants or building structures, along with a carrier. The repellent composition may include a combination of EPO with another plant extract oil and a combination of EPO with catnip oil, optionally combined with another plant extract oil. The method for repelling target pests from animals comprises contacting a target area with the repellent composition to repel the target pest from the target area. The method also reduces transmission of infectious diseases transmitted by target pests by reducing contact of the pest with target areas.

Anxiolytic Marcgraviaceae compositions containing betulinic acid, betulinic acid derivatives, and methods

A method is provided herein for controlling insects which are harmful to agriculture and forestry and which are also harmful both to humans and to domestic animals. The method involves the steps of applying to a locus infested with such insects, a composition comprising a carrier and a biocidal-amount of a specifically-recited phototoxic, naturally-occurring thiophene, acetylene, or a synthetic, structurally-related derivative, analogue or acetylenic compound. Then, that composition, while at that locus, is subjected to UV radiation in the range about 300 nm to about 400 nm, for a sufficient time to impart, to such phototoxic naturally-occurring thiophene, acetylene, or synthetic, structurally-related derivative, analogue or acetylenic compound the desired insect control activity. Certain of these phototoxic naturally-occurring thiophenes, or acetylenes or synthetic, structurally-related compounds are also novel and provide novel insect control compositions.
