A method for splicing honeycomb core together to form a core structure, such as an acoustic panel for an aircraft. The core structure may comprise a first honeycomb core, a second honeycomb core, and an intermediate bonding part disposed between the first and second honeycomb cores. The intermediate bonding part may comprise a syntactic core wrapped with or sandwiched between a non-foaming film adhesive. The syntactic core sandwiched between a first and second layer of film adhesive and a first and second honeycomb core is then compressed by vacuum and cured to bond the honeycomb cores together, forming the core structure.

Method for bonding honeycomb cores

An inlet of an aircraft nacelle having an acoustic barrel configured to reduce engine fan flutter by attenuating various frequencies. The acoustic barrel may comprise an acoustic panel of a honeycomb configuration sandwiched between a first back sheet and a face sheet and extending from a forward bulkhead to an aft bulkhead of the inlet. The acoustic barrel may further comprise a deep liner section bonded to and sandwiched between the first back sheet and a second back sheet. The deep liner section may have a narrower width than the acoustic panel and may be located proximate the aft bulkhead. The sections of the first back sheet, the face sheet, and a septum of the acoustic panel may be perforated and may contain additional holes formed in portions aligned radially inward of the deep liner section.

Engine inlet deep acoustic liner section

An acoustic, noise-attenuating panel for an aircraft engine nacelle inlet. The panel includes at least three layers: (a) a perforated film; (b) a sound attenuating core; and (c) a structural layer. The structural layer has through-holes adapted for receiving fasteners that are configured to engage structure of an engine nacelle. The structural layer is fabricated, at least at its ends, of a material sufficiently strong so that when fasteners are engaged in the through-holes in the layer's ends, the fasteners retain the acoustic panel in a nacelle inlet under conditions of use. Alternatively, or in addition, the structural layer ends may be reinforced at the through-holes with reinforcing strips.

Aircraft systems having thrust reversers with locking assemblies are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an aircraft system includes a fan casing and a thrust reverser attached to the fan casing. The fan casing includes a first member. The thrust reverser includes a nozzle inner wall, a second member proximate to the nozzle inner wall for engaging with the first member, and a locking member positioned proximate to the first member. The locking member is movable between (a) a first position in which the first member is positioned between the locking member and the second member such that the locking member inhibits disengagement of the first and second members, and (b) a second position in which the locking member does not inhibit disengagement of the first and second members. The first member can be a V-groove, and the second member can be a V-blade.

Thrust reversers including locking assemblies for inhibiting deflection

An acoustic panel for integration in a nacelle of an aircraft engine assembly for absorbing noise generated by an engine or a fan assembly of the aircraft engine assembly. The acoustic panel comprises a generally annular section integrated into or attached to an inner wall of the inlet section, and a flange extending generally perpendicularly from the annular section. The flange attaches the acoustic panel to a bulkhead without requiring the use of fasteners extending through the annular section of the acoustic panel, thus eliminating any unwanted air passages through the annular section of the acoustic panel.

Integrated inlet attachment

Thrust reversers having latching mechanisms and methods for manufacturing such thrust reversers are disclosed herein. An aircraft system in accordance with one embodiment includes a thrust reverser having a first inner panel and a second inner panel opposite the first inner panel. The first and second inner panels have an inner surface and an upper portion. The system further includes a catch projecting inwardly from the inner surface and the upper portion of the first inner panel, and a latch projecting inwardly from the inner surface and the upper portion of the second inner panel. The latch is positioned to selectively interlock with the catch to inhibit relative movement between the first and second inner panels.
