A process for applying a fluorescent leak detection dye to a component of an air conditioning system. The process involves the steps of (i) providing a fluorescent dye that is solid at room temperature, (ii) exposing the dye to an elevated temperature to melt the dye into a liquid or flowable state, (iii) injecting, channeling, spraying or placing the flowable dye into or on a component or an HVAC or A/C system, (iv) allowing the dye to resolidify in or on the component, (v) attaching the component to the HVAC or A/C system, and (iv) dissolving the resolidified dye in a liquid/gas.

Meltable fluorescent dye for leak detection

A multi-profile adapter assembly is disclosed for connecting a pressurized fluid source to two or more different fittings. The adapter assembly includes an injector connector removably attachable to a hose connected to a pressurized fluid source and including an internal conduit for channeling a flow of pressurized fluid. An inner housing is connected to the injector connector and includes a channel leading to a second opening and a cavity configured to receive an access fitting on an AC system. A one way valve controls flow from the conduit in the injector connector into the inner housing. An adapter is connected to the inner housing and includes a first contour configured to engage with a first fitting and a second contour configured to engage with a second fitting. The inner housing and adapter are movable relative to one another for changing the location of the first contour and second contour.

Multi-profile adapter assembly

A recovery and recharge apparatus and method for delivering a dose of fluorescent dye to an air conditioning/HVAC system. A supply line provides for both recovering and recharging of refrigerant into the system. The supply line includes a first segment connected to the recovery and recharge unit and having a single internal conduit for channeling reclaimed refrigerant into the recovery and recharge unit and for channeling refrigerant from the reservoir. A dye compartment is fluidly connected to the first segment and includes an interior cavity with an access panel for permitting access to the cavity for receiving a fluorescent dye material. A second segment is fluidly connected to the dye compartment and has an outlet port for connecting to a low side connection on the air conditioning/HVAC system. Preferably one way valves are located on opposite sides of the dye compartment and allow recovered refrigerant to bypass the dye compartment.

System for delivering leak detection dye with a reclaim/recharge unit

Provided is a porous pellet for inclusion into an operating fluid of a fluid system for detecting sites of fluid leakage. The porous pellet comprises a solid matrix formed by at least one fluorescent dye which is solid at room temperature. The matrix has a porosity of from about 10% to about 90%. Methods of installing the porous pellets into fluid system for detection of leaks is also provided.

Fluorescent dye formulation and leak detection method

An ultrasonic detector has a housing containing a transducer, a battery or other power supply, and any other necessary electronics. At a front end of the housing is a socket into which one of a plurality of interchangeable probes can be inserted. At the rear end of the housing, there is a handle by which an operative can hold the detector in use. On the inside of the housing, extending at least partially into the handle, is an elongate chamber within which at least one probe can be stored. A cover of the handle closes a rear end of the probe storage chamber and can be removed to expose a portion of the probe storage chamber and allow a probe to be inserted or removed.

The present invention provides a white-fluorescing dye blend comprising at least one neutral blending oil, a perylene-based compound, naphthalimide-based compound, and a coumarin-based compound. This white-fluorescing dye blend has a substantial fluorescent response to illumination by the entire range of commonly available inspection lamps. The resultant blended dye is an all-purpose blend that is satisfactory for all automotive fluids and all inspection lamps.

A lamp module for use in non-destructive testing and inspection. The module including a module body with a front and rear end, and a side wall. The module body includes a mounting chamber located within the side walls. A plurality of LEDs are mounted within the chamber and oriented to so as to emit light out of the front end of the body. At least one LED emits light having a wavelength selected to produce fluorescence of an illuminated material. A fan is mounted to the body to dissipate heat generated by the LEDs when the fan is activated. Electrical connectors extend out of the body and are electrically connected to the LEDs and the fan for supplying current. The module can be installed in various structures or systems, including in a luminaire, an overhead light housing or a track light system.

An inspection lamp includes a housing with an external opening providing access to a socket having an electrical contact, an interchangeable light source module including a tab adapted to be inserted into the opening and received into the socket, the tab including a mating electrical contact for making an electrical connection with the electrical contact of the socket, the light source module including at least one light emitting diode, and a switch for controlling the light emitted by the light source module.

A blended dye for use in a coolant. In one embodiment of the invention, the blended dye includes a first water miscible dye adapted to fluoresce when illuminated with a light. The first dye preferably has a wavelength of about 340 nm to about 420 nm. The blended dye also includes a second water miscible dye adapted to fluoresce when illuminated with a light having a wavelength of about 400 nm to about 460 nm. The second dye has a different composition from the first dye.

Blend dyes and method of identifying leaks

A leak detection dye carrier is formed using a two-stage process (). In a first stage, the dye carrier () is saturated with a mixture () of a dye powder and an evaporable solvent, such as alcohol. The solvent is permitted to evaporate leaving dispersed dye solids () on the dye carrier (). In a second stage, the dye carrier () and dispersed dye solids () are immersed in a wet bath (). The method may be a hybrid of dry and wet systems of placing dye onto a substrate carrier in which the wet bath is a mixture of a dye and a solvent, such as a system lubricant. Alternatively, the immersion of the dye carrier in the second stage may be limited in duration to prevent the dye solids in the first stage from being dissolved.

A container including a mixture of refrigerant and leak detection dye medium is disclosed for adding to an air conditioning or refrigeration system. The container includes a storage container adapted to communicate with an air conditioning or refrigeration system for supplying material inside the container to the air conditioning or refrigeration system. A refrigerant is contained within the container, along with a leak detection dye medium. The dye medium including a dye adapted to fluoresce when exposed to incident radiation below about 500 nm. The dye medium having an initial state where at least a portion of the dye medium is in a non-liquid form separate from the refrigerant and includes a concentrated dye, and a second state where the dye is dispersed or mixed with the refrigerant. A method of forming the mixture within the container is also disclosed.

A fluorescent dye composition for inclusion in a fluid for leak detection applications is provided which is responsive to a broad range of UVA, blue, and UVA-blue light sources. The composition comprises a mixture of a perylene dye, a naphthalimide dye, and a hydrocarbon-based fluid, wherein the combination of the perylene dye, the naphthalimide dye and the hydrocarbon-based fluid are miscible in the fluid. A fluorescent dye composition is also provided that is effective for all automotive working fluids, including heavy lubricants and transmission fluids, synthetic lubricants and internal combustion oils, refrigerants, liquid and gaseous fuels, and hydraulic fluids. A fluorescent dye composition is also provided containing only a combination of perylene dye and naphthalimide dye.

Full spectrum fluorescent dye composition for the optimization of leak

An inspection lamp for detection of a fluorescent material which absorbs electromagnetic energy in a specific excitation frequency band and which emits electromagnetic energy in a specific fluorescent emission frequency band within the visible light spectrum. The lamp includes a bulb housing, a light source within the bulb housing, and a dichroic filter. The dichroic filter is adapted to transmit electromagnetic radiation in the excitation frequency band of the fluorescent material and reflect electromagnetic radiation in the fluorescent emission frequency band of the material.
