The disclosed technology relates to esterified and/or ether containing polymers derived from itaconic acid that are free of the less reactive tri-substituted vinyl monomers (e.g., citraconic acid or mesaconic acid) that may be used, for example, as builders in detergent applications, such as in the personal and home care market.

Itaconic acid polymers and copolymers

Guanylurea alcohol phosphate salts are disclosed. Flame retardant thermoplastic and thermoset polymers can be made by incorporating said guanylurea alcohol phosphate salts into polymers and these polymers have improved properties over similar thermoplastic or thermoset polymers where guanylurea phosphate salts are added as flame retardant dispersions to said polymer. Flame retardant polyurethane foams where the guanylurea alcohol phosphate salts have been incorporated into the polyurethane are a particularly preferred embodiment.

Guanylurea alcohol phosphates and their use as reactants in polyurethane and epoxy resin applications

An improved process for forming polyamide dispersions in water utilizing carbon dioxide to facilitate dispersion of the polyamide is disclosed. The polyamides are generally below 30,000 or 40,000 g/mole molecular weight when dispersed, but can be chain extended with polyfunctional species such as polyisocyanates after dispersion. The dispersions are useful in coatings, adhesives, and inks. Composites and hybrids of these other polyamides with vinyl polymers are also disclosed and claimed.

Waterborne polyamide and their chain extension with isocyanates to form cationic waterborne polyureas dispersions

Non-halogenated monomers that can be polymerized into flame retardant polymers, and processes to produce the monomers and polymers is provided. In a simplest aspect, there is provided a monomer composition that can comprise a) a group derived from one of a (meth)acrylic acid, (meth)acrylamide, or vinylbenzene, b) a polyphosphate moiety, and c) an amine species. In the monomer composition, the ethylenically unsaturated monomer of (a) is covalently bonded directly or through a linking group to the moiety of b), forming a precursor monomer unit. The amine species of c) is in complex with the precursor monomer unit. The polymer can be a homopolymer of the monomer composition, or a copolymer of the monomer composition having varying a), b) and c). In one embodiment, the polymer can additionally comprise ethylenically unsaturated monomers not covalently bonded to a polyphosphate moiety and/or can be cross-linked with a cross-linking agent such as resorcinol.

Non-halogen flame retardant polymers

Polymers are disclosed that incorporate large portions of elastomeric polyamide oligomers connected with polyisocyanates. These polymers have enhanced properties over similar polyurethanes due to better hydrolysis resistance of polyamides over polyesters and better UV resistance of polyamides over polyethers. Polyurea linkages can also improve properties over polyurethane linkages. Composites and hybrids of these polymers and other polyamides with vinyl polymers are also disclosed and claimed.

Water-borne polyamide-urea dispersions

This invention relates to polymers made from low molecular weight polyamide oligomers and telechelic polyamides (including copolymers) containing N-alkylated amide groups in the backbone structure. The described telechelic polyamides are used as the soft segment in the described TPU. These telechelic polyamides are unique in that they have an unexpectedly low glass-transition (desirably 30 degrees C. or lower) which makes them suitable for further reaction and polymerization, allowing for the formation of the described TPU. The resulting TPU can provide improved hydrolytic, oxidative and/or thermal stability as well as improved adhesion to other materials, especially polar materials.

Non-halogen flame retardant as coatings for fibrous filter media

Low glass transition temperature polyamide oligomers or telechelic polyamides are formed from monomers forming tertiary amide linkages. These polyamides can be used with co-reactants to form high molecular weight or crosslinked polymers with desirable polyamide properties.

Dithiocarbonate derivatives are disclosed, along with a process for preparing the same. The dithiocarbonate compounds can be utilized as initiators, chain transfer agents and/or terminators in controlled free radical polymerizations. The dithiocarbonates can be used to produce polymers having narrow molecular weight distribution. Advantageously, the compounds of the present invention can also introduce functional groups into the resulting polymers. The dithiocarbonate compounds have low odor and are substantially colorless.

A s,s'-bis-(&#x3b1;,&#x3b1;&#x2032;-disubstituted-&#x3b1;&#x2033;-acetic acid)-trithiocarbonate and derivatives thereof can be used as an initiator, chain transfer agent, or terminator for polymerization of monomers such as free radical polymerizable monomers. Homopolymers, copolymers, and the like as well as block copolymers can be made utilizing the trithio carbonate compound such as in a living free radical polymerization as well as to form telechelic polymers.
