A fluid-management article, such as a sanitary napkin, comprises a body-faceable, liquid-pervious cover having a top surface, a garment-faceable, liquid-impervious barrier, and an absorbent system intermediate the cover and the barrier. The fluid-management article comprises a plurality of fluid-guiding channels that surround a plurality of isolated protrusions. The channels and the protrusions are formed through the top surface of the cover of the fluid management article. The protrusions have an apex that extends a height greater than about 0.5 millimeters (mm) above at least a portion of the plurality of channels. The protrusions have a number density greater than about 0.15 protrusions/cm.

An absorbent article having a body-facing cover layer, a garment facing barrier layer and an absorbent element between the cover layer and the barrier layer. The cover layer is a non-woven fabric formed from an interconnected network thermoplastic polymer fiber elements. At least a portion of the non-woven fabric is three-dimensional having a plurality of raised regions, semi-raised regions and compressed regions, the raised regions having a lower fiber density relative to the semi-raised regions, the semi-raised regions having a lower fiber density relative to the compressed regions.

The primary absorbent member includes an absorbent core and a liquid pervious topsheet superposed on the absorbent core and a flexible backsheet under the absorbent core, the topsheet and the backsheet being affixed together to enclose the absorbent core around an outer periphery to form a flange seal. The secondary absorbent member includes a liquid pervious topsheet, a liquid impervious barrier sheet joined to the topsheet and an absorbent element positioned between the topsheet and the barrier sheet. The primary absorbent member and the secondary absorbent member are joined together to form a unitary structure.

Compound sanitary napkin

A method of manufacturing a three-dimensional fabric of the type which may be used in absorbent garments, dressings or the like involves the use of an apertured collector element which has a predetermined three-dimensional shape. The method involves positioning material adjacent to one side of the apertured collector element and developing a pressure differential between the one side of the apertured collector element and a second, opposite side to force the fabric material against the apertured collector element. The material, which has conformed to the shape of the collector element, is then solidified into its intended three-dimensional shape.

Prebent, anatomically shaped, self-aligning absorbent products comprising a fluid permeable body facing cover, an absorbent element, a central, partially longitudinally disposed core, and a flexible, moisture barrier having partially longitudinally disposed permanent creases proximate to the longitudinal edges of the moisture barrier, are provided. Such products generally have a convex shape in the approximate center portion of the body facing surface which shape allows the product to conform to the body and more closely approximate the source of fluid discharge thereby reducing unwanted movement or misalignment which may result in leakage. Such products further generally have an hourglass shape which complements the general contour of the inside surfaces of the thighs.

Method and system for making three-dimensional fabrics

A method of making an absorbent product in which pressure sensitive adhesive is used to attach the product to a user's undergarment. The product does not require release paper to protect the adhesive from unintended contact prior to use. The product is made by forming depressions in a fluid impervious barrier so as to create raised areas in the barrier that protect the adhesive. The depressions may be formed in the garment facing surface of the barrier and the adhesive applied within the depressions so that the raised areas adjacent the depressions protect the adhesive. Alternatively, the depressions may be formed in the surface of the barrier opposite the garment facing surface so as to create raised areas in the garment facing surface and the adhesive applied adjacent the raised areas.
