A laser wake-field acceleration (LWFA)-based nuclear fission system and related techniques are disclosed. In accordance with some embodiments, the disclosed system may be configured to accelerate charged particles, such as protons, to velocities close to the speed of light utilizing LWFA. The system also may be configured, in accordance with some embodiments, to use these high-energy relativistic charged particles in causing nuclear fission of a given downstream fissionable target, thereby releasing large amounts of harvestable energy. Optionally, the system further may be configured, in accordance with some embodiments, to utilize charged particles resulting from the fission in producing electrical energy.

Laser wake-field acceleration (LWFA)-based nuclear fission system and related techniques

A method and apparatus are described for creation of amorphous metals using electromagnetic supercooling of a metal/alloy without the utilization of rapid quenching or immaculate process environments. By exposing the cooling melt to electric currents, either induced by an alternating current (AC) magnetic field or supplied directly, crystallization is suppressed, and the melt can reach significant levels of supercooling. With sufficient current densities in the melt, the supercooling can extend all the way into the glass transition range for certain materials, at which point an amorphous metal/alloy is created.

Method and apparatus for supercooling of metal/alloy melts and for the formation of amorphous metals therefrom

The present invention relates to devices that improve control by selection, inversion, fortification, uniformization and mapping background energy (including dark energy and/or dark matter) and including electromagnetic energies in various forms and states of aggregation, during a tailoring process and to processes of tailoring materials.

Devices for tailoring materials

There is provided a water-hydrocarbon mixture. In one example, the mixture includes low-molecular weight hydrocarbon and between about 5% and about 70% water. The mixture is in the gaseous state, and is at a pressure that is below the critical pressure of the mixture. The mixture temperature is above about 28&deg; C. less than the boiling point temperature of water at the mixture pressure and is below about 450&deg; C. The mixture provides a local environment of water molecules, tending to limit hydrocarbon polymerization and other undesirable side reactions and keeping the hydrocarbon from precipitating from the mixture, for a faster, more complete combustion cycle characterized by lower emissions of carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons, and volatile organic and polyaromatic hydrocarbons. The hydrocarbon preferably includes hydrocarbon micro-droplets of a diameter of no more than about 1 &mgr;m.

Sub-critical water-fuel composition and combustion system

There is provided a water-hydrocarbon mixture. In one example, the mixture includes liquid hydrocarbon and between about 5% and about 70% water. The mixture is at a pressure that is below the critical pressure characteristic of the mixture and is at a temperature that is at least the greater of about 250&deg; C. and about the boiling point temperature of water at the mixture pressure. The mixture provides a local environment of water molecules, tending to limit hydrocarbon polymerization and other undesirable side reactions and keeping the hydrocarbon from precipitating from the mixture. This provides for a faster, more complete combustion cycle that is characterized by lower emissions of carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons, and volatile organic and polyaromatic hydrocarbons. The hydrocarbon preferably includes hydrocarbon micro-droplets of a diameter of no more than about 1 &mgr;m. The water in the mixture is preferably in a gaseous state, and one or more hydrocarbon constituents in the mixture are also preferably in a gaseous state. In one embodiment, both the water and the hydrocarbon of the mixture are in a gaseous state.
