Methods for forming optical articles with antireflective nanostructured (ARN) surfaces. An aluminum layer is deposited or otherwise applied to the cavity of an injection mold tool. Sequential chemical treatments such as anodization and etching steps form an ARN mold texture on the interior surface of the cavity. The ARN mold texture is a negative of a desired surface texture of the article. During injection molding, the desired ARN surface is thereby produced in the optical article.

A steerable illumination fixture includes an emitting source and a refractive optical system that steers an emitted beam by relative translation of the emitting source against the optical system. The light emitting source may be placed along an optical axis of one or more lenses to produce an output beam along that axis, or translated in-plane (orthogonal to the optical axis) relative to the lenses to produce a steered beam. The optical system may include refractive lenses or mixing channels and/or one or more baffles with apertures. A round, uniform beam results that retains approximately the same power level and beam width as it is steered. A second lens having a diameter equal to or larger than a first lens may be provided and configured with an effective focal plane of the two lenses located approximately at the plane of the light emitting source.

Configurable luminaires and components

A steerable illumination fixtures include an emitting source and a refractive optical system that steers an emitted beam by relative translation of the emitting source against the optical system. The design is typically optimized to produce a round, uniform beam that retains approximately the same power level and beam width as it is steered. It is beneficial, but not required, that a second lens have a diameter equal to or larger than a first lens. The lenses may be configured so that the effective focal plane of the two lenses together is located approximately at the plane of the light emitting source.

Systems and methods include providing an aircraft with a flight control system, a hybrid electrical or hybrid hydraulic propulsion system, and three ducted fan configuration. Each of two ducted fore fans include a single rotor system having multiple rotor blades, and a single ducted aft fan includes dual, coaxial, counter-rotating rotor systems each having multiple rotor blades. The aircraft is a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft that is capable of operation in an airplane mode and a helicopter mode and designed to provide an urban air-taxi that would relieve ground traffic congestion, reduce carbon emissions, and increase productivity, thereby providing a faster, more efficient means of transportation.

A rotor assembly has a composite driveshaft extending between a transmission and a yoke for providing torque from the transmission to the yoke to cause rotation of the yoke and a plurality of rotor blade assemblies attached thereto. The rotor hub also has a composite static mast coupled to the yoke and a frame. The static mast being configured to carry the lift and thrust forces from the yoke to the frame.

In a first aspect, there is a personal air vehicle including a body having a forward portion, a central portion and an aft portion; a first ducted fan supported by the forward portion of the body; a second ducted fan supported by the aft portion of the body; and third and fourth ducted fans supported by the left and right sides of the body and pivotable relative to the body. An aspect provides a method of flying the personal air vehicle.

An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has a fuselage, a rotor system, and a wing configured for selective positioning during flight of the UAV to a deployed position, a stowed position, and to positions between the deployed position and the stowed position. The UAV has a flexible wing skin at least partially carried by a leading arm and the leading arm is rotatable relative to the fuselage.

Methods and apparatus for detecting cross-linking in a polymer, wherein, in some exemplary implementations, the polymer may constitute an encapsulation layer for a photovoltaic module. In one example, a polymer sample is physically deformed, and sample information relating to a relaxation or a recovery of the polymer sample in response to the deformation is obtained. The sample information is then compared to reference information relating to cross-linking of the polymeric material so as to determine a degree of cross-linking in the tested polymer sample. In one aspect, such a determination of polymer cross-linking is achieved without adversely affecting a relevant functionality of the polymer/encapsulation layer (e.g., without destruction to the polymer/encapsulation layer).

A method of cleaning a dust filter includes applying a negative electrical potential to a first electrode in a first area of a dust filter and applying a positive electrical potential to a second electrode disposed in a second area of the dust filter, wherein a voltage differential between the first and second electrodes is sufficient to cause electrostatic movement of dust from the first area to the second area. Then, the method further includes applying a negative electrical potential to the second electrode and applying a positive electrical potential to a third electrode disposed in a third area of the dust filter, wherein a voltage differential between the second and third electrodes is sufficient to cause electrostatic movement of dust from the second area to the third area, and wherein the first, second and third areas are generally linearly arranged.

A computer system includes a computer chassis housing a processor and having a dust filter disposed in an airflow pathway through the computer chassis. A plurality of electrodes is disposed across an area of the dust filter, and a voltage source is provided having a negative terminal and a positive terminal. A controller selectively couples a first subset of electrodes to the negative terminal and selectively couples a second subset of electrodes to the positive terminal, wherein a voltage differential between the first subset of electrodes and the second subset of electrodes is sufficient to cause electrostatic movement of dust from an area of the dust filter near the first subset of electrodes to an area of the dust filter near the second subset of electrodes.

A system and method for allowing more rapid takeover of a failed filer by a clustered takeover partner filer in the presence of a coredump procedure (e.g. a transfer of the failed filer's working memory) is provided. To save time, the coredump is allowed to occur contemporaneously with the takeover of the failed filer's regular, active file service disks by the partner so that the takeover need not await completion of the coredump to begin. This is accomplished, briefly stated, by the following techniques. The coredump is written to a single disk that is not involved in regular file service, so that takeover of regular file services can proceed without interference from coredump. A reliable means for both filers in a cluster to identify the coredump disk is provided, which removes takeover dependence upon unreliable communications mechanisms. A means is provided for identification during takeover of the coredump disk and SCSI-3 reservations are employed to coordinate write access to (ownership of) shared disks, so as to prevent takeover from interfering with coredump while simultaneously preventing the failed filer is from continuing to write regular file system disks being taken over by its partner.
