A method for examining images on a computer display comprising the steps of: a) defining a geographic area of interest for a plurality of images; b) selecting a set of images from the plurality of images within the geographic area of interest for display; c) ordering the set of images according to their acquisition date and/or acquisition time; d) examining the set of images across a spatial domain; and e) examining the set of images across one or more time domains.

A method of comparing the size of a feature in sequential X-ray images includes the steps of: forming first and second sequential X-ray images including an image of the feature, an image of a first target located directly adjacent the feature and an image of a second target located between the object and an X-ray detector; calculating scale factors for the first and second X-ray images based on the relative sizes of the images of the first and second targets in the X-ray images; measuring the sizes of the feature in the first and second X-ray images; adjusting the measured sizes of the feature in the first and second X-ray images by the respective scale factors; and comparing the adjusted measured sizes. A computer program product for performing the method is also provided.

Method and program for comparing the size of a feature in sequential x-ray images

A method for determining dental alignment of a 3-dimensional model of one or more teeth of a patient comprises the steps of: (a) obtaining a radiograph of the teeth of the patient; (b) obtaining a digital image from the radiograph indicative of the dental alignment of the teeth relative to a dental arch of the patient; (c) overlaying the 3-dimensional model of the teeth with the digital image obtained from the radiograph; (d) determining vertical and horizontal mis-alignment of the teeth in the 3-dimensional model relative to the digital image obtained from the radiograph; and (e) adjusting the 3-dimensional model to correct for the mis-alignment, thereby producing an adjusted 3-dimensional model of the teeth that is corrected for the vertical and horizontal alignment of the teeth relative to the dental arch.

Method for determining dental alignment using radiographs

A portable intra-oral capture and display system, designed for use by a dental practitioner in connection with a patient seated in a dental chair, includes: a handpiece elongated for insertion into an oral cavity of the patient, where the handpiece includes a light emitter on a distal end thereof for illuminating an object in the cavity and an image sensor for capturing an image of the object and generating an image signal therefrom; a monitor interconnected with the handpiece, where the monitor contains electronics for processing the image for display and a display element for displaying the image, where the interconnection between the monitor and the handpiece includes an electrical connection for communicating the image signal from the image sensor in the camera to the electronics in the monitor; and a receptacle on the dental chair for receiving the monitor, wherein the receptacle conforms to the monitor such that the monitor may be withdrawn from the receptacle in order to allow the display element to be seen by the dental practitioner or the patient.

Creating a dental model from a series of images of an intra-oral object includes the steps of (a) capturing a series of images of an intra-oral object from a plurality of capture positions, where the object includes common surface features and a control target arranged with respect to the object to provide control features; (b) measuring the common features from the series of images of the object and the control features from the control target imaged with the images of the object; (c) analytically generating a 3-dimensional model of the object by photogrammetrically aligning the measurements of the control features, thereby reducing image errors due to the variability of the capture positions; and (d) adjusting the photogrammetrically aligned 3-dimensional model of the object by aligning the common features of the model to like features on the image of the object, thereby producing an aligned dental model from the series of images.

Method and system for creating dental models from imagery

A portable intra-oral capture and display system includes: (a) a handpiece elongated for insertion into an oral cavity, said handpiece including a light emitter on a distal end thereof for illuminating an object in the cavity and an image sensor for capturing an image of the object and generating an image signal therefrom; (b) a portable, hand-cradled base containing in a single integral enclosure a light source for generating light, electronics for processing the image for display, a display monitor for displaying the image, a storage for storing the image, thereby providing a stored image for subsequent review and access, and an interface for transferring the stored image to a peripheral device; and (c) an optical connection for transmitting the light from the base to the light emitter in the camera, and an electrical connection for communicating the image signal from the image sensor in the camera to the processor in the base.

A portable intra-oral capture and display system includes (a) a handpiece elongated for insertion into an oral cavity, the handpiece including a light emitter on a distal end thereof for illuminating an object in the cavity and an image sensor for capturing an image of the object and generating an image signal therefrom; (b) a portable, hand-cradled base containing, in a single integral enclosure, electronics for processing the image for display and a display monitor for displaying the image; (c) an electrical interface for communicating the image signal from the image sensor in the camera to the electronics in the base; and (d) a contamination control device for the portable, hand-cradled base comprising a pouch enclosing the single integral enclosure and having a transparent front panel that is positioned adjacent the display monitor. In addition, the electronics includes a touch screen interface for providing a plurality of touch screen controls that appear on the screen of the display monitor.

An image registration method is described for X-ray imagery, in which specific views of the x-rays are provided to optimize tie point selection accuracy and efficiency. The first view maintains context during initial point selection. The second view provides a detailed view of each point pair, to allow for fine adjustment, while automatically presenting each point pair in sequence to the user. After the tie points are refined and the images are registered, a third view is provided which allows direct comparison of the registered images.
