A heat exchanger includes a heat exchanger core including a cold side and a hot side. The cold side directs a first cooling fluid from a cold inlet to a cold outlet. The hot side directs a hot fluid from a hot inlet to a hot outlet. An inlet header coupled to the hot side of the heat exchanger core at the hot inlet includes an interior wall and an exterior wall spaced apart from the interior wall. The interior wall defines an inlet duct; the interior wall and exterior wall define a cooling channel surrounding at least a portion of the inlet duct. The inlet duct directs hot fluid though the inlet header to the hot side. The cooling channel directs a second cooling fluid through the cooling channel.

A method of manufacturing a heat exchanger. The method includes additively manufacturing a first body with a first plurality of passages extending through the first body. Additively manufacturing a second body with a second plurality of passages extending through the second body. The method also includes, interlocking the first body with the second body such that the first plurality of passages is aligned with the second plurality of passages and fluidically connected with the second plurality of passages.

An impeller includes a housing having a fluid inlet cavity defining a rotational axis. A plurality of vane are inlets arranged along an inner surface of the fluid inlet cavity and a plurality of vane outlets are circumferentially arranged along a rim of the housing. Each of the vane outlets is fluidly connected to a corresponding vane inlet by a corresponding internal channel situated internal to the housing. Each of the channels maintains a triangular cross-section from the vane inlet to the vane outlet.

Impeller

An impeller includes a body with an interior channel extending through the body along a centerline axis of the impeller. A plurality of blades is connected to the body on a forward end of the impeller centerline axis. The plurality of blades surrounds the interior channel and is fluidly connected to an array of inlets. An array of pentagonal channels extends through the body and radially outward in a spiral pattern. Each pentagonal channel is fluidly connected to a corresponding vane inlet and a corresponding pentagonal-shaped outlet. Each channel maintains a pentagonal cross-section shape from the inlet to the outlet. Each downward-sloping face of the cross section is more than 35 degrees from a horizontal plane perpendicular to the centerline axis of the impeller.
