The inventive subject matter provides apparatus, systems and methods in which a high port count base station antenna uses an array of spherical lenses with multiple ports per frequency band, containing multiple frequency bands, and capable of multiple beam operation. In a preferred embodiment, the antenna system comprises a plurality of spherical, dielectric lenses, stacked vertically, where each lens is surrounded by four or more lower frequency radiating elements, or one circular element. The circular element can have multiple sub-elements, along with feed gaps.

A radio frequency antenna array uses lenses and RF elements, to provide ground-based coverage for cellular communication. The antenna array can include two spherical lenses, where each spherical lens has at least two associated RF elements. Each of the RF elements associated with a given lens produces an output beam with an output area. Each lens is positioned with the other lenses in a staggered arrangement. The antenna includes a control mechanism configured to enable a user to move the RF elements along their respective tracks, and automatically phase compensate the output beams produced by the RF elements based on the relative distance between the RF elements.

A variably controlled stagger antenna array architecture is disclosed. The array employs a plurality of driven radiating elements that are spatially arranged having each radiating element or element groups orthogonally movable relative to a main vertical axis. This provides a controlled variation of the antenna array's azimuth radiation pattern without excessive side lobe radiation over full range of settings.

The invention relates in part to a folded dipole having a dipole axis and a pair of arms which together have a profile which is concave on one side and convex on the other when viewed along the dipole axis. The dipoles may be arranged as a dipole box around a central region, typically in a generally circular or square configuration. Further elements may be placed in the dipole box or in the gaps between dipole boxes. The antenna may be a single-band antenna, or a multi-band antenna with the further elements operating in a different frequency band to the dipole boxes. The further elements may be concentric dipole boxes. The invention is particularly suited for use in a cellular base station panel antenna. A novel coaxial to microstrip transition is also described.

An apparatus and method of projecting a no turn warning to an oncoming vehicle or pedestrian. The no turn warning indicates the motor vehicle is proceeding in a straight pathway through an intersection rather than turning either to the left or to the right. At least one visible light is mounted to the frontal exterior of the motor vehicle for projecting the no turn warning. When more than one visible light is mounted to the frontal exterior of the motor vehicle, the no turn signal can flash serial, sequentially or concurrently, in accordance with the controller's preprogrammed paradigm.

A folded dipole antenna for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic signals is provided. The antenna includes a ground plane and a conductor extending adjacent the ground plane and spaced therefrom by a first dielectric. The conductor includes an open-ended transmission line stub, a radiator input section, at least one radiating section integrally formed with the radiator input section, and a feed section. The radiating section includes first and second ends, a fed dipole and a passive dipole. The fed dipole is connected to the radiator input section. The passive dipole is disposed in spaced relation to the fed dipole to form a gap. The passive dipole is shorted to the fed dipole at the first and second ends.

An improved antenna system for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic signals comprising a backplane having a length and a vertical axis along the length. A plurality of dipole radiating elements project outwardly from a surface of the backplane. Each of the elements includes a balanced orthogonal pair of dipoles aligned at first and second predetermined angles with respect to the vertical axis, forming crossed dipole pairs. An unbalanced feed network extends along the backplane and connected to the radiating elements. A printed circuit board balun is attached to each of the dipoles. The antenna can also include a parasitic element positioned along the vertical axis such that primary electromagnetic fields induce currents on the parasitic element, these induced currents re-radiate secondary electromagnetic fields which cancel portions of the primary electromagnetic fields, thereby improving isolation.

An improved antenna system for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic signals comprising a mounting plate having a length and a longitudinal axis along the length. A plurality of staggered dipole radiating elements project outwardly from a surface of the mounting plate. Each of the radiating elements includes a balanced orthogonal pair of dipoles aligned at first and second predetermined angles with respect to the longitudinal axis, forming crossed dipole pairs. The mounting plate is attached to a longitudinally extending chassis. An unbalanced feed network is connected to the radiating elements. The feed network extends along the mounting plate and is spaced from the mounting plate by a plurality of clips. The feed network is disposed between the chassis and the mounting plate. A plurality of microstrip hooks are provided, each of the microstrip hooks being positioned adjacent to, and spaced from, each of the dipoles by one of the clips.

A directional flare system is disclosed. A flare is used which emits light generally isotropically when actuated. An opaque shield is located to one side of the flare to prevent the transmission of light from the flare throughout a preselected sector about a vertical axis passing through the flare. Means are provided for maintaining the opaque shield in a preferred angular orientation about the vertical axis.
