The present invention relates to a regenerator including a packed bed of energy storage elements made of a material having the following chemical analysis: 25%&#x3c;FeO&#x3c;90%, 5%&#x3c;AlO&#x3c;30%, CaO&#x3c;20%, TiO&#x3c;25%, 3%&#x3c;SiO&#x3c;50%, Na2O&#x3c;10%, FeO+AlO+CaO+TiO+SiO+NaO&#x3e;80%, and other compounds: complement to 100%.

Regenerator

A center pivot sprinkler system includes a sprinkler arm to be mounted at a pivot point at a first end of the sprinkler arm, the sprinkler arm defining a water conduit. A motive source can move the sprinkler arm in a circular motion about the pivot point. An end nozzle is supported at a second end of the sprinkler arm, and in fluid communication with the water conduit. A control valve is positioned between the water conduit and the end nozzle, and a control valve positioner can position the control valve. A position determining device determines the position of the end nozzle in a circular arc about the pivot point. A processor polls the position determining device to determine a then-current position of the end nozzle and determines a flow of water to be issued from the end nozzle as a function of the then-current position of the end nozzle.

Area-programmable sprinkler

A chemical processing apparatus that utilizes a ceramic media sintered at a lower temperature than the apparatus' maximum exposure temperature is described. The media's physical and chemical properties may contribute to its thermal stability when exposed to temperatures that exceed the media's sintering temperature by at least 50&#xb0; C.

Thermally stable ceramic media for use in high temperature environments

The invention provides an improved ceramic packing element () suited to use as a bed limiter having a generally uniform cross-section in the length (l) direction with the basic shape of a bow-tie and having a plurality of through passages () parallel to the length dimension (L).

Ceramic packing element

Ceramic mass and thermal transfer media suitable for use in thermal regenerative oxidizers made using a mixture of a ball clay, talc and optionally a dolomitic limestone have enhanced resistance to environments containing halogens and hydrogen halides. The media preferably comprises less than 0.25% by weight of alkali metal, expressed as the oxide, and has a cordierite: silica phase ratio of less than 1.2:1, as determined by X-ray diffraction.

Halogen-resistant media

Ceramic media made using ceramic components comprising from 5 to 60% by weight of spodumene and 95 to 40 wt % of other ceramic-forming components comprising clay and feldspar have a reduced tendency to shrink upon firing to form the media and improved physical properties.

Removal of impurities from hydrocarbon streams

The invention provides media for absorption of phosphate and metal contaminants from a hydrocarbon stream and a method of making such media. The media comprise alumina with relatively minor amounts of calcia and magnesia and are made by a process in which the minor components or precursors of such components are dispersed in a gelled sol of a hydrated alumina such as boehmite.

Ceramic bodies comprised mainly of zircon and wollastonite, with zircon being the dominant crystalline phase, show improved resistance to alkaline conditions at elevated temperatures than conventional bodies and excellent thermal stability.
