The embodiments herein relate to a method in a policy node for handling a UEs access to a mobile communications network. The policy node comprises policy information for the UEs access rights to the mobile communications network. The policy node obtains, from a subscriber database, subscription information for a subscriber associated with the UE. Based on the subscription information and the policy information, the policy node determines which geographical areas comprised in the mobile communications network the UE is allowed or denied access to. The policy node transmits, to a mobility node, access information indicating which geographical areas comprised in the mobile communications network the UE is allowed or denied access to.

Method and nodes for handling a user equipment's access to a mobile communications network

There is provided mobile gateway selection performed by a PCRF node in communication with an MME node or an S4-SGSN. The mobile gateway selection is based on a direct MME/S4-SGSN-PCRF interface. A request message for a Packet Data Network Gateway Internet Protocol address to be used for establishing a session for a first user equipment is transmitted from the MME/S4-SGSN to a Policy and Charging Rules Function node through a direct MME/S4-SGSN-PCRF interface. The Policy and Charging Rules Function node determines a PDN GW IP address to be used for establishing the session based on policies for the first user equipment and transmits the PDN GW IP address through the direct MME/S4-SGSN-PCRF interface to the MME/S4-SGSN.

The present invention relates to a solution for handling handover of connections for a user equipment from a packet switch network to a circuit switched network. This is provided as a method implemented in a node and system. The method is provided in a telecommunications network connecting user equipment, i.e. UE, communicating wirelessly with the network. The method comprising steps of detecting that handover is required from a packet switched, i.e. PS, based network to a circuit switched, i.e. CS, based network, initiating in a source mobility management node, a single radio voice call continuity, i.e. SRVCC, initiating a PS to CS handover for non-voice components with information about voice related parameters and a PS to CS handover indicator, executing hand over, sending an update request to a serving gateway, i.e. SGW, from a target mobility management node with non-voice related parameters and the PS to CS handover indicator, forwarding the update request from the SGW to a packet data network gateway, i.e. PGW, receiving the update request in the PGW, detecting the PS to CS handover indicator, and handling in the PGW the PS to CS handover indicator.

The present invention relates to a method for moving at least one service or an IP session from a first access to a second access, comprising the following steps: &#x2014;a Gateway, GW, routes () a data packet flow between a Packet Data Network, PDN, and a User Equipment, UE, for said service or IP session over the first access, &#x2014;the GW monitors () the data packet flow between the PDN and the UE to detect the network performance of the first access, &#x2014;the GW&#x2014;moves () the routing of the data packet flow to the second access when the network performance goes below a threshold.

The embodiments herein relate to a method in a Policy and Charging Rules Function, PCRF, node () for handling Access Point Names, APNs. The PCRF node receives, from a Core Network, CN, node (), a request message comprising information indicating a first APN associated with a packet data connection. The request message is a request for a second APN being configured for a wireless device () arranged to communicate via the packet data connection. The PCRF node selects a configuration for the wireless device (), and selects the second APN adapted to the selected configuration from a plurality of candidate second APNs. Each candidate second APN in the plurality comprises different configurations for the same packet data connection. The PCRF node transmits a response message to the CN node (). The response message comprises information indicating the selected second APN.

A method for providing access feedback when a User Equipment, UE, with an established a connection over multiple accesses towards a Gateway, GW, initiates a set-up of a new service for a service session. The method comprises a step where the GW or a Policy and Charging Rules Function, PCRF, initiates a Quality of Service, QoS, resource reservation as a response of the set-up of the new service initiated by the UE. The GW or the PCRF in the QoS resource reservation selects a first access as present access. The method is particularly characterized in a step where the UE rejects said first access as present access and sends a reject message to the GW, wherein the GW or the PCRF as a result of the reject message initiates a new QoS resource reservation selecting a second access as present access.

Rate adaptation

In a mobile network comprising a plurality of base stations and a gateway, a user equipment may perform a handover from a source base station to a target base station. By control signalling, the handover may be notified from the target base station to a control node of the mobile network and then to the gateway so that the gateway may switch to a data path which connects the target base station and the gateway. The notification of the handover may be delayed at the target base station or at the control node, by starting a timer and sending the control signalling for initiating the path switching after expiry of the timer.

The embodiments herein relate to a method in a Policy and Charging Rules Function, PCRF, node (), for handling User Equipment-Aggregated Maximum Bit Rate, UE-AMBR, for a wireless device () in a communications network (). The PCRF node () comprises a direct interface () with a Mobility Management Entity/Serving General packet radio service Support Node, MME/SGSN (). The PCRF node () receives a subscribed UE-AMBR from the MME/SGSN () using the direct interface (). The subscribed UE-AMBR is associated with a wireless device subscription. When triggered, the PCRF node () calculates a UE-AMBR based on the subscribed UE-AMBR and based policies associated with the wireless device (). The PCRF node () transmits the calculated UE-AMBR to the MME/SGSN () using the direct interface ().

Enhanced QOS control in PCRF

A method, gateway apparatus, computer program, and computer program product for mitigating end user congestion in a wireless network is provided. The gateway apparatus is in a core network and receives from a radio access network (RAN) a message comprising cell congestion information indicating that a cell of the RAN is in a congested state. The gateway apparatus receives via a packet data network (PDN) a downlink (DL) network packet addressed to a wireless communication device, WCD, attached to the core network via said cell of the RAN. In response to receiving the DL network packet, the gateway apparatus determines a classification of the DL network packet. After determining the classification of the DL network packet, the gateway apparatus processes the DL network packet in accordance with the cell congestion information and the determined classification of the DL network packet.
