A hydraulic fluid de-aeration device for a hydraulically actuated variable valve actuation system is provided. The device includes a bridge and a de-aeration chamber having an upper chamber, a lower chamber, and a central axis. A vent pipe is arranged along the central axis of the de-aeration chamber and can include at least one vent hole. The bridge is arranged such that hydraulic fluid flowing from the bridge is directed towards an outer wall of a top portion of the lower chamber. The device includes a cover that integrates the upper chamber with a vent hole for air that is expelled from the hydraulic fluid. An optional gasket or plate configured with at least one vent hole can be arranged between the upper and lower chamber. The vent pipe can be arranged within the cover and extend through the upper chamber to the lower chamber.

Hydraulic fluid de-aeration device

A hydraulic fluid system for a variable valve train system is provided that allows hydraulic fluid flow from a high pressure chamber to a medium pressure chamber during a higher pressure phase after a control valve closes. The hydraulic fluid system includes a housing defining (a) the middle pressure chamber which is connected to a hydraulic fluid supply, and (b) the high pressure chamber which contains hydraulic fluid that is pressurized by a pump piston assembly configured to engage a rotating cam. A control valve selectively provides a first flowpath for hydraulic fluid between the middle pressure chamber and the high pressure chamber. A bypass valve selectively provides a second flowpath for hydraulic fluid between the middle pressure chamber and the high pressure chamber based on a pressure of the hydraulic fluid in the high pressure chamber.

Bypass valve for pressure oscillation control

A lash compensator for a valve train component of an internal combustion engine is provided that includes an end-cap arranged within a reverse-spring control valve assembly of an axially moveable piston. The piston has a first reservoir and an inner radial wall configured with a through-aperture. The reverse-spring control valve assembly has a control valve housing, a bias spring, an end-cap, and a closing body. The end-cap is configured with a cupped end; an inner side of the cupped end receives a second lower end of the bias spring, and an outer side of the cupped end engages an upper portion of the closing body. The end-cap minimizes or eliminates the variation in flow resistance caused by a variation in end-coil geometry of the second lower end of the bias spring.

A camshaft phaser, including: a stator including radially inwardly extending protrusions with radially outermost ends; a rotor including radially outwardly extending protrusions radially outermost ends; chambers at least partially bounded by a inwardly extending protrusion and an outwardly extending protrusion; first seals disposed in the radially innermost ends and facing the rotor; second seals disposed in the radially outermost ends and facing the stator; first and second wedge plates radially disposed between the rotor and the stator; and a displacement assembly arranged to for an advance mode, displace the first wedge plate to enable rotation of the rotor, with respect to the stator, in the first circumferential direction and for a retard mode, displace the second wedge plate to enable rotation of the rotor, with respect to the stator, in a second circumferential direction opposite the first circumferential direction.

Multi-position camshaft phaser with two one-way wedge clutches and viscous damping

A hydraulic fluid de-aeration device for a hydraulically actuated variable valve actuation system is provided. The device includes a de-aeration bridge having a first end and a second end. The device includes a conical de-aeration chamber having an outer wall and a generally vertical center axis. The second end of the de-aeration bridge is offset from the center axis of the de-aeration chamber such that hydraulic fluid flowing from the de-aeration bridge is directed towards the outer wall of the de-aeration chamber. The device includes a cover with a vent hole for air that is expelled from the hydraulic fluid. A passage connected to the de-aeration chamber supplies the hydraulic fluid to a hydraulic fluid gallery of the variable valve actuation system.

De-aeration device for a hydraulically actuated variable valve actuation system

A torsion assembly for providing controllable torsion to a camshaft, including: a spring assembly including a first spring; and, a contact element arranged to engage at least one lobe for the camshaft. For a locked mode: the contact element is arranged to be displaced by the at least one cam lobe; the contact element is arranged to compress the first spring; and the first spring is arranged to impart a first torque to the camshaft via the contact element. For an unlocked mode, the contact element is arranged to be displaced by the at least one cam lobe and the contact element is arranged to impart a second torque, less than the first torque, to the cam shaft via the contact element.

Torsion assembly for controllably providing torque to a camshaft

A valve part of a hydraulic control valve for controlling flows of pressurized medium is provided. The valve part includes: a cylindrical valve housing with a valve housing hollow space that is open on one side in the axial direction, wherein the valve housing is provided with a radial first work connection (A), a radial second work connection (B), and a radial pressure connection (P), each of which opens into the valve housing hollow space, and a cylindrical control piston is held in the valve housing hollow space so that it can move in the axial direction with a control piston hollow space that is open on one side at an axial control piston hollow space opening. The control piston is provided with a radial discharge connection (T) opening into the control piston hollow space, and the control piston is constructed in such a way that the work connections (A, B) can be connected selectively in a fluid conducting way to the pressure connection (P) and the discharge connection (T) through axial displacement of the control piston. The valve part distinguishes itself in that a cover provided with at least one cover opening is attached to the axial control piston hollow space opening.

A valve part of a hydraulic control valve for controlling flows of pressurized medium is provided, wherein the valve part includes a cylindrical valve housing with a first cylinder casing section extending in the axial direction and a first cylinder base section extending perpendicular to the axial direction, with the sections defining a valve housing hollow space that is open on one side. The first cylinder casing section is provided with a first work connection, a second work connection, and a pressure connection, each of which open into the valve housing hollow space. A cylindrical control piston is held in the valve housing hollow space so that it can move in the axial direction, and has a second cylinder casing section extending in the axial direction and a second cylinder base section extending perpendicular to the axial direction, with these sections defining a control piston hollow space that is open on one side. The second cylinder casing section adjacent to the second cylinder base section is provided with a radial discharge connection opening into the control piston hollow space, and the control piston is constructed such that the work connections can be connected selectively in a fluid conducting manner to the pressure connection and to the discharge connection through axial displacement of the control piston. The valve part is distinguished in that the discharge connection of the control piston includes at least one inclined opening, having a wall direction that assumes an angle of less than 90&#xb0; to the axial direction.

A valve train of an internal combustion engine with at least one camshaft () on which at least one rotatable cam () is arranged fixed in the axial direction, wherein a rotationally fixed connection of the at least one cam () with the camshaft () can be selectively established and released by an associated coupling-like locking device (). So that the valve train has a compact construction and low production costs and nevertheless low wear in operation, it is provided that the locking device () is held within the cam () and has a spring-loaded, annular locking collar () that can move in the axial direction on the camshaft () and, as a counter part to the locking collar (), locking shoes (') coupled with the cam (), wherein, in a locking position, the locking collar () is pressed against the locking shoes (&#x2032;) by contacting, ramp-shaped boundary surfaces () formed on the locking collar () and the locking shoes (&#x2032;), so that radial projections () arranged on the locking shoes (&#x2032;) engage in adjacent, pocket-shaped receptacles () of the camshaft () by a radial force and, in an unlocked position, the locking collar () is released from the locking shoes (&#x2032;) by a force acting against the radial force.
