In a multi-channel digital wireless audio system with at least one transmit node and at least one receive node, each node can both receive and transmit digital audio signals. Signals sent from a receive node to a transmit node may acknowledge satisfactory signal receipt, or may requesting retransmission of data packets received in a corrupted state. Original and retransmitted signals may be sent in compressed form to enable use of narrow-band digital radios. The system preferably incorporates a dual control channel to enable transmission of meta data. Each system node preferably incorporates a hardware-multithreaded processor adapted to implement various functions such as baseband functions, RF protocol functions, error correction functions, and audio processing functions, with each independent thread being adapted to implement a different functional block.

Multi-channel digital wireless audio system

An embedded processor system having a single-chip embedded microprocessor with analog and digital electrical interfaces to external systems. A novel processor core uses pipelined execution of multiple independent or dependent concurrent threads, together with supervisory control for monitoring and controlling the processor thread state and access to other components. The pipeline enables simultaneous execution of multiple threads by selectively avoiding memory or peripheral access conflicts through the types of pipeline stages chosen and the use of dual and tri-port memory techniques. The single processor core executes one or multiple instruction streams on multiple data streams in various combinations under the control of single or multiple threads.

Multithread embedded processor with input/output capability

A wireless system for video game control comprised of a base transceiver engaged with an electronic game device where said base transceiver communicates wirelessly with one or more wireless controllers concurrently and which implements a variety of techniques to achieve significant advantages in the areas of latency, reliability, power consumption, and cross platform compatibility.

A steering/driving game controller integrates an additional steering lever to the underside of the game controller. The steering lever is spring biased in a center operable positions and is variably actuated such that it is responsive to varying degrees of depression. In response to the varying degree of user depression, the steering/driving controller is capable of outputting steering control signals of varying level to a connected game console, thereby enabling more selective and more accurate driving control within a video game being played on the connected game console.

Game controller

An omni-directional, planar folded dipole antenna and related quadrature phase shifter implemented on printed circuit boards (PCBs) having differing properties that are perpendicularly engaged. The planar antenna segment is implemented on a single-sided inexpensive PCB and a quadrature phase shifter and system electronics are implemented on more expensive multi-layer PCBs. The invention reduces cost and improves system reliability because coaxial or like connectors of varying material and installation quality are not required between a planar antenna and a quadrature phase shifter. Planar antenna transmits radio frequency signals in an omni-directional pattern and is capable of receiving signals from remote dipole antennas positioned in arbitrary physical orientations. The quadrature phase shifter provides both phase shifting functions and also converts an unbalanced radio frequency transceiver output signal into a balanced input signal to the planar antenna.

An improved game controller. D-pad keys are positioned above a printed circuit board-with plungers guided by housing apertures. The D-pad key is top-loaded into contact with the housing to simplify manufacture and operating reliability. The D-pad key can be depressed downwardly until it contacts a pivot supported by a pivot post. The combination of elements permits significant design flexibility in the orientation and shape and operation of a D-pad key. Front mounted triggers replace front mounted buttons attached to a separate vertical printed circuit board. The triggers function with the main printed circuit board, thereby reducing cost and enhancing product reliability.

Video game console stand

A portable game controller for operating an electronic game device. The controller communicates between a person and the game device with a radio frequency sender and receiver. Signal transmission is communicated over the same channel with time domain multiplexing, and can be sent over one or more channels to expand the number of controllers operable in a system. Signal transmission can be delivered in short intervals to conserve battery power. Multiple persons can deliver signals through multiple senders or through a common radio frequency sender, and signals can be transmitted from the radio frequency receiver to the radio frequency sender.

Radio frequency remote game controller

A game controller for communication between a user and an electronic game device transmitting signals to a receiver. The game controller identifies weakness in signal strength or operation and permits adjustment to a more effective operating frequency. The game controller comprises a portable housing, game controller keys attached to the housing for permitting the user to generate signals, a radio frequency sender engaged with the game controller keys for transmitting the signals to the receiver; and a controller attached to sender for determining a selected parameter regarding the signals and for communicating the parameter to the user. The radio frequency sender is capable of transmitting signals over multiple frequencies and preferable operates with the Remote Band frequency range. At least one of the keys can be operable by the user to change the signal frequency or the controller can automatically change the signal frequency to a more effective frequency. The controller can be capable of identifying parameters regarding the signal such as the signal strength and is capable of polling information over one or more discrete time periods. Information regarding the signal can be communicated with a display such as a light.
