A vacuum cleaner comprising a dirty air intake and a cyclonic separating apparatus connected in series. The cyclonic separating apparatus comprises a plurality of cyclonic separators connected in parallel. The vacuum cleaner further comprises a bleed valve provided upstream of the plurality of cyclonic separators. The bleed valve opens to admit bled air into the plurality of cyclonic separators in response to a drop in pressure in the vacuum cleaner. The bleed valve is also connected to the inlets of the plurality of cyclonic separators via a common plenum.

Vacuum cleaner

A bladeless fan assembly for creating an air current includes a nozzle mounted on a base housing a device for creating an air flow. The nozzle includes an interior passage for receiving the air flow and a mouth for emitting the air flow. The nozzle defines, and extends about, an opening through which air from outside the fan assembly is drawn by the air flow emitted from the mouth. The nozzle also includes a heater for heating the air flow upstream of the mouth.

A surface treating appliance includes a first cyclonic separating unit including at least one first cyclone, a second cyclonic separating unit including a plurality of second cyclones arranged in parallel about an axis, and a third cyclonic separating unit including a plurality of third cyclones arranged in parallel about the axis. Each of the second cyclones and the third cyclones has a tapering body with an outside wall. The plurality of third cyclones is divided into at least a first set of third cyclones and a second set of third cyclones, each of the plurality of second cyclones and the first set of third cyclones being arranged about the second set of third cyclones. At least a part of the outside wall of each of the plurality of second cyclones and each of the first set of third cyclones forms part of the external surface of the surface treating appliance.

Humidifying apparatus includes a humidifier for emitting moist air into an external environment, and a fan assembly for generating an air current within the external environment for conveying the emitted moist air away from the humidifier. The fan assembly includes a device for creating an air flow and a nozzle including an interior passage for receiving the air flow and a mouth for emitting the air flow. The humidifier is located behind nozzle, the nozzle extending about and defining an opening through which both air from outside the nozzle and the moist air emitted from the humidifier are drawn by the air flow emitted from the mouth.

A surface-treating appliance, such as a vacuum cleaner, includes a main body housing a component such as a post-motor filter. A door provides access to the filter. The door is connected to the main body by a hinge arranged to allow the door to pivot about the hinge's rotational axis and to move axially as the door is moved between closed and open positions. The provision of a hinge that can move along its rotational axis permits the door to move laterally as it opens, thereby clearing adjacent parts of the appliance, such as the spine. This allows an appliance to be manufactured that permits the user to access components housed inside of it, but is compact. Preferably, the hinge includes a cam arrangement, so that the door automatically moves away from adjacent parts of the appliance as it moves from the closed position to an open position.

A probe is disclosed which is suitable for use with an apparatus for monitoring the corrosion of a material by accurately measuring changes in the resistance of an exposed element ( ) in relation to a reference element ( ). The two elements are electrically connected in series via a bridge ( ). The elements are formed from the same piece of material divided along an elongate slot ( ) and are proximate to one another so that the temperature difference between them is kept to a minimum. This prevents false indications of corrosion by ensuring that the temperature coefficient of the resistivities is the same in both elements.
