Systems and methods for optical path protection for distributed antenna systems are provided. In one embodiment, a system comprises a hub and at least one node located remotely from the hub. The hub is coupled to the node by first and second fiber paths, the first fiber path comprising an uplink fiber and a downlink fiber, the second fiber path comprising an uplink fiber and a downlink fiber. The node is coupled to the downlink fibers of the first and second fiber paths via an optical combiner, and is further coupled to the uplink fibers of the first and second fiber paths via an optical splitter. The node further monitors a signal quality of a downlink optical signal and communicates to the hub information indicative of the signal quality. The hub switches communications between the hub and the node from the first to second fiber path based on the information.

Systems and methods of optical path protection for distributed antenna systems

A radio access node is configured to digitize a first analog radio frequency signal in order to generate first digital data indicative of the first analog radio frequency signal and is configured to digitize a second analog radio frequency signal in order to generate second digital data indicative of the second analog radio frequency signal. The first analog radio frequency signal is broadcast from a first mobile unit using wireless service provided by a first wireless service provider. The second analog radio frequency signal is broadcast from a second mobile unit using wireless service provided by a second wireless service provider. The first and second digital data are transported from the radio access node to the base unit using a shared transport medium. The base unit is configured to produce information derived from the first digital data and the second digital data that is used in performing base station processing for the first mobile unit and the second mobile unit.

Multiprotocol antenna system for multiple service providers

A system comprising: a local area network (LAN) device configured to produce a local area network (LAN) signal; and a modem unit configured to produce, based on the local area network (LAN) signal produced by the local area network (LAN) device, a transport modulated format signal suitable for transmission over transport cabling. The modem unit further configured to provide power to the local area network (LAN) device.

Architecture for signal and power distribution in wireless data network

An architecture is provided for coupling wireless local area network (WLAN) signals between an internetworking device and a remotely located access point using a transport network. The access point is coupled to the transport network for communicating with the internetworking device. The access point includes a wireless local area network (WLAN) access point and an access point remote converter. The WLAN access point receives wireless local area network signals from wireless computing equipment and converts such signals to local area network compatible signals. The access point remote converter receives the local area network compatible signals from the WLAN access point and converts the signals to transport modulated format signals suitable for transmission over the transport network.

One embodiment is directed to a system comprising a first unit and remotely located second units. The first unit comprises a transport medium interface to produce a common transport signal from first and second wireless service provider signals and to communicate the common transport signal on a common transport medium. Each second unit comprises first and second equipment associated with first and second wireless service providers, respectively. The first and second equipment in each second unit produces a respective first and second wireless service signal to be radiated from at least one antenna associated with that second unit. The system further comprises a common network management system configured to: receive first and second control messages from first and second wireless service provider network management systems, respectively, and forward the first and second control messages to the first and second equipment, respectively, in the second units using the common transport medium.

Operations and maintenance architecture for multiprotocol distributed system

An architecture is provided for coupling wireless local area network (WLAN) signals between an internetworking device and a remotely located access point using a transport network. The access point is coupled to the transport network for communicating with the internetworking device. The access point includes a wireless local area network (WLAN) access point and an access point remote converter. The WLAN access point receives wireless local area network signals from wireless computing equipment and converts such signals to local area network compatible signals. The access point remote converter receives the local area network compatible signals from the WLAN access point and converts the signals to transport modulated format signals suitable for transmission over the transport network. The transport network also provides a power signal to power at least some components of the access point.

A common management system is configured for use in an antenna system that distributes radio frequency signals for a first wireless communication service provider and a second wireless communication service provider using the same distribution network. The common management system includes a software element and an interface to communicatively couple the software element to: a first tenant network management system operated by the first wireless communication service provider, a second tenant network management system operated by the second wireless communication service provider, and entities within the antenna system. The software element is configured to receive control messages sent from the first tenant network management system and to receive control messages sent from the second tenant network management system. The software element is further configured to forward control messages to entities within the antenna system.

Multiprotocol antenna system for multiple service provider-multiple air interface co-located base stations

A simple and low cost architecture for a distribution network is provided for coupling wireless local area network ('wireless LAN') signals between geographically distributed access points and centrally located internetworking devices. The distribution network eliminates complexities involved with the deployment of such systems in the past, which have typically required the computer network-compatible wiring to be extended to each access point directly from an internetworking device such as a repeater, bridge, router, or gateway. The distribution network makes it economically efficient to deploy wireless local area networking equipment in locations where wired network infrastructure is not readily available. In particular, any convenient existing physical wiring, such as may be provided by the existing optical transport cabling of a fiber optic network, is used as a physical layer transport medium to carry the wireless local area network signals between the access points and centrally located network hub equipment.

Architecture for signal distribution in wireless data network

A hub unit is configured to receive wireless analog downlink radio frequency signals from a plurality of base stations from more than one wireless service provider. The hub unit is configured to digitize each analog downlink radio frequency signal in order to generate respective downlink digital data. The hub unit comprises a reconfigurable interconnect to selectively provide, to each of the plurality of radio access nodes using a shared transport medium, the downlink digital data associated with a respective two or more of the analog downlink radio frequency signals. Each of the plurality of radio access nodes is configured to reconstruct, from the downlink digital data provided to that radio access node, an analog radio frequency version of each of the associated two or more analog downlink radio frequency signals and radiate each reconstructed analog radio frequency version in a respective coverage area associated with that radio access node.

A hub unit is configured to digitize first and second analog radio frequency signals in order to generate first and second digital data, respectively, indicative of the first and second analog radio frequency signals. The first and second analog radio frequency signals are broadcast from first and second base stations, respectively, associated with first and second cellular service providers, respectively, using first and second air interfaces, respectively. The first and second digital data are transported to a radio access node using a shared transport medium. The radio access node is configured to reconstruct versions of the first and second analog radio frequency signals from the first and second digital data, respectively, using first and second digital-to-analog converters and is also configured to generate first data packets from a first data radio frequency signal. The first data packets are communicated to the hub unit using the shared transport medium.

Systems and methods for optical path protection for distributed antenna systems are provided. In one embodiment, a method is provided. The method comprises receiving an electrical uplink radio frequency signal; generating an uplink optical signal derived from the electrical uplink radio frequency signal; splitting the uplink optical signal for transmission on a primary uplink optical fiber and a secondary uplink optical fiber; combining any downlink optical signal received on a primary downlink optical communication medium and any downlink optical signal received on a second downlink optical communication medium in order to output a downlink optical signal; and generating a downlink radio frequency signal derived from the downlink optical signal.
