A method and apparatus for color separation scanning wherein a workpiece is movably supported and scanned by a linear detector. At least one color filter is interposed in the optical path between the workpiece and the linear detector and multiple scans are taken of a linear portion of the workpiece. The data obtained from multiple scans are averaged and stored in memory. A second memory may be provided to accept data input during a scan of a subsequent portion of the workpiece while the data in the first memory is output to a print device.

Method and apparatus for color separation scanning

A color scanner is provided having a commonly mounted and driven original scanning table and LED dot generator exposure source. Scanning is accomplished by illuminating a strip of the original artwork with high intensity fluorescent light and detecting the illuminated strip through a linear scanning aperture, lens and color filter wheel using a charge coupled device ('CCD') linear detector. Original artwork is held by vacuum against the flat original artwork receiving surface and photosensitive material is automatically loaded and held by vacuum onto the surface of a rotating exposure drum mounted parallel to the direction of travel of the LED dot generator exposure source, and the exposed halftone film is automatically removed from the drum surface and loaded into a transfer cartridge. Advantageously, multiple linear scans may be averaged in order to reduce color fringe effects. As a further advantage of the present invention photosensitive material is loaded and unloaded from the exposure drum in daylight operation.

Low cost color scanner

A system for coding photographic materials is provided wherein a code pattern disposed on a cassette containing photosensitive material is read by an optical code reading unit associated with a photographic apparatus adapted to receive the cassette. Preferably, a grey reference patch is provided and the code is a tertiary code defined by black, white and grey printed patches. The type of photosensitive material contained in the cassette is identified from the tertiary code and appropriate exposure and/or development settings can be made by the photographic apparatus. The absence of a recognizable code pattern indicates use of an authorized supply material.

Method and apparatus for coding photographic materials

A magnification signal of 64 - 100% is applied as an input parameter to a specially designed relaxation oscillator which produces a pulse train wherein the pulses thereof have a duration which vary in linear fashion with respect to the magnification input signal, the relaxation oscillator employing a constant current source in series relationship with an integrating capacitor which produces a saw tooth signal having a slope which is constant regardless of variations in the amplitude of the magnification input signal. The output pulses from the relaxation oscillator are counted to define an exposure control interval which changes linearly with respect to the input magnification signal.

Linear exposure control system

A system is disclosed for measuring the background density of an object to be photographed wherein a count is inserted into a counter proportional to the measured density. The intensity of illumination of the object is thereafter measured and the count within the counter is counted down at a rate proportional to the measured illumination intensity until the count reaches zero; the beginning of the exposure interval being defined by the start of the countdown step and the end of the interval being defined by the count in the counter reaching a predetermined value.
