A portable power source having a battery that is electrically connected to a power circuit that is configured to generate a higher output voltage than the voltage generated by the internal battery. The power circuit is electrically connected to a connection device that distributes the higher output voltage to an external battery source. The power source also includes a case that includes an integral handle for carrying the power source. The handle is formed into the case that includes an internal compartment that is covered by a movable door formed into the case. The door is movable between open and closed positions and arranged and configured to open a switch when the door is in the closed position and close the switch when the door is in the open position. The switch controlled by the movable door controls the application of power to all components comprising the power circuit.

Portable power supply

A portable hand-carrying auto-polarity battery booster apparatus includes a power storage device which is capable of providing power to an electrical system such as a battery. For example, the portable apparatus can be used to jump start a vehicle with a dead battery. The apparatus is compact in size which encloses the power storage device, the at least four connecting cables, and many other electrical circuits in a compact housing. The portable apparatus also includes an auto-polarity switch in the housing which ensures a proper polarity connection between the power storage device of the apparatus and the electrical system, as well as an ON/OFF switch located between the battery and the auto-polarity switch.

The present invention discloses a battery charging device adapted to be connected to a battery having a positive and a negative terminal for supplying a direct current to the positive terminal of the battery. This device comprises an alternating current supply means, such as a transformer, connected to a power supply for providing alternating current, such as a wall socket. A charge current supply controller means is connected to the secondary winding of the transformer. The charge current supply controller means comprises two pairs of silicon controlled rectifiers ('SCR') and a SCR interface circuit. The secondary of the transformer is also connected to the SCRs. A processor which is connected to the SCR interface circuit determines which pair of SCRs will supply direct current to the battery. The processor, which is connected to the output of the polarity sensing detector, decides which pair of SCRs will be the conduit for the current to the battery based on the output of the polarity sensing detector. The polarity sensing detector is in communication with the battery. The SCRs are adapted to be connected to the positive and negative terminals of the battery for supplying direct current to the positive terminal of the battery. Once the polarity of the connection has been determined and the direct current will flow to the positive terminal of the battery, the processor utilizes software to determine whether a battery can accept charge.

Automatic polarity and condition sensing battery charger

A battery charger which senses the percent of charge in a battery, selects automatically on a continuous basis a constant output charging voltage by switching between two different taps of a transformer, limiting the output voltage not to exceed 17.5 volts to protect the electronic components of the vehicle having the battery therein, against the adverse effects resulting from overcharging and compensating for changes in temperature to maintain a constant level of voltage in continuously charging a battery to the point of being fully charged.
