An electroluminescent device, and a method of making an electroluminescent device that includes one or more color conversion elements is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes forming an electroluminescent element on a substrate, where the electroluminescent element is capable of emitting light in a narrow band. The method further includes selectively thermally transferring a plurality of color conversion elements to the electroluminescent element. In another embodiment, the method includes forming an electroluminescent element on a substrate, where the electroluminescent element is capable of emitting UV light. The method further includes selectively thermally transferring a plurality of color conversion elements to the electroluminescent element.

Electroluminescent devices and methods of making electroluminescent devices including a color conversion element

A thermal transfer donor element is provided which can include a support, light-to-heat conversion layer, interlayer, and transfer layer. When the donor element is brought into contact with a receptor and imagewise irradiated, an image is obtained which is free from contamination by the light-to-heat conversion layer. In order to enhance the lifetimes of the transferred material, thermal treatments such as annealing are applied to the receptor before transfer, to the transfer layer after transfer, or a combination of them. The construction and process of the donor element is useful in making colored images including applications such as color proofs, color filter elements, and organic light emitting diode displays and devices.

Patterning and treatment methods for organic light emitting diode devices

A thermal transfer donor element is provided which includes a support, light-to-heat conversion layer, interlayer, and thermal transfer layer. When the donor element is brought into contact with a receptor and imagewise irradiated, a portion of the transfer layer is transferred to the receptor. The relative surface texture of the layers can be at least partially controlled, prior to imaging of the donor element, for desired effects in the resulting receptor device. The construction and process of the donor element is useful in making colored images including applications such as color proofs, color filter elements, and organic light emitting displays.

Electroluminescent materials and methods of manufacture and use

The invention provides compositions, organic electronic devices, and methods for preparing organic electronic devices. The compositions include a small molecule that is combined with at least one other material selected from a charge transporting material, a charge blocking material, a light emitting material, a color conversion material, or a combination thereof. The first compound has an aromatic core and two to four identical end capping groups attached to the aromatic core. The second compound has at least some structural similarities to the first compound of the composition.

The present invention provides a method for pattering oriented materials to make organic electronic displays or devices. The method includes selective thermal transfer of an oriented electronically active or emissive material from a thermal transfer donor sheet to a receptor. The method can be used to make organic electroluminescent devices and displays that emit polarized light. The method can also be used to make organic electronic devices with enhanced charge mobility properties. The present invention also provides donor sheets for use with the method, and methods for making donor sheets that include transfer layers having oriented electronically active organic materials.

Method for patterning oriented materials for organic electronic displays and devices

A thermal transfer donor element is disclosed that includes a substrate, a transfer layer, a light-to-heat conversion layer disposed between the substrate and the transfer layer, and an underlayer disposed between the substrate and the light-to-heat conversion layer. The underlayer manages heat flow between layers of the donor element during imaging. For example, the underlayer can increase heat transport from the light-to-heat conversion layer to the substrate to prevent overheating. The underlayer can also be used to insulate the substrate from heat generated in the light-to-heat conversion layer or to increase heat flow to the transfer layer during imaging. Managing heat flow using an underlayer can improve transfer properties and/or reduce defect formation during imaging.
