According to one embodiment of the present invention, a coin processing system includes a coin input area that receives coins from a user, a coin processing module that counts the received coins, and a foreign object detection system that detects a foreign object within the coin processing module subsequent to counting substantially all the received coins.

A coin stacking device is used to refill a coin cassette of a coin dispenser. The coin stacking device includes a cylindrical structure having an inner diameter approximately the same as a diameter of the coins. The cylindrical structure has one open end and one closed end. The coins enter the open end and form a coin stack within the cylindrical structure. To refill a coin cassette, the open end of the filled coin stacking device is aligned with a coin receptacle in the coin cassette that is in need of coins. The coin stack is then transferred from the coin stacking device to the coin receptacle of the coin cassette. The coin stacking device can easily filled by an automated coin processing machine, such as a coin sorting machine or a coin counting machine.

The invention is related to a coin chute for transporting coins in a coin processing machine. The coin chute includes a first surface, a second surface, and a rolling surface. The rolling surface connects the first surface and the second surface to form generally a V-shape cross-section to the coin chute. The V-shape has an angle &#x3b8; between the first and second surface surfaces, and is inclined at an angle &#x3b1; relative to the horizontal. The angles &#x3b8; and &#x3b1; are selected to be values that cause the coins to move under a gravitational force and slidably roll across the rolling surface.

A coin wrapper for wrapping coins comprises a coin input region for receiving the coins, a coin queuing mechanism for receiving the coins from the coin input region and moving each of the coins away from the coin input region, a coin stacking region for receiving coins from the coin queuing mechanism and stacking the coins on at least one stacking element to created a coin stack, and a coin wrapping region for receiving the coin stack on the stacking element from the coin stacking region. The coin wrapping region includes a plurality of rollers for rotating the coin stack and a paper feed mechanism for introducing paper to be wrapped around the coin stack.
